Description Unlike other nonprofit animal welfare organizations, Houston Humane Society receives no federal, state or local government funding, relying solely on donations, program services and special events to fund our life-saving work. In addition to funding the shelter's programs and services, donations also play a critical role in our onsite veterinary clinic, which provides low cost, full service veterinary care to the general public. Providing these essential veterinary services at a price that low income families can afford is a critical step in keeping pets healthy and happy in their homes, and we continue to serve approx. 30,000 households a year through the clinic.

I unknowingly adopted a cat (Lala) with highly contagious FIP from here. Be very careful and closely inspect any animal you plan to adopt. I asked the front desk staff if there were any medical issues with the cat, and they told me she was a surrender in good health. When we brought her home, she appeared lethargic and was not eating. They emailed her detailed medical record hours after I signed the contract and paid adoption fees. I realized she had a recent history of diarrhea, vomiting, and possible seizures. I took her to the vet the next day, and she was diagnosed with a high fever and dry FIP. I paid a lot of money for vet fees, blood work, and medicine to help my cat. It has been a very stressful experience. These shelters need to be more transparent and upfront regarding the background of animals up for adoption. Now, my other 14 year old kitty has been exposed to a highly contagious disease, all because I wanted to do the right thing and adopt from a local shelter.
Took our newly rescued female cat to get shots and be fixed. Went there at the drop off time and picked her up at 4pm. Staff were very nice and answered all my questions. Followed the instructions for after care and if I had anymore all I had to do was call. Thank u!!!
I will never donate to this place! They turned us away after we called and told them that my friend wanted to take a dog that showed up at her house and was very friendly but she couldn't keep him because she travels. We took him and they told her that they couldn't take him because they were full. We drove from Hobby to Old Katy location. These rescue and this Houston Humane Society places are a joke and pure lies! I don't respect these places at all! We took a picture of the poor dog. They ought to be ashamed!
Excellent services, came to the annual event free neutered for my 4 male babies 🐱🐱🐱🐱. Lines were long but so worth it. Thank you Houston Humane Society and its partners.
Yes, let me correct this review, especially since I just Love the Houston Humane Society. They have the finest folks working there. They make you feel like your pets are the customer. They are thorough, and work as fast as possible to make sure your pet gets the attention and help the pet needs. I have been going to the HHS for the last ten years and I highly recommend them. I have always found them honest and so caring towards all my pets. Thank you much for all that the Houston Humane Society does to help our city animals!
Really amazing organization with a good purpose, they provide healthcare for all of their cats. Their onsite Veterinarian staff is great and the people at the front desk are helpful with the adoption process.
