Fabulous experience! A great place for low-cost adoption, as well as low-cost vaccination and vet care. Very nice facility. The staff are friendly and helpful. Very welcoming. The facilities are very clean and the dogs look like they get very good care. The dog we adopted was, at first, on hold for a rescue. I'm so grateful to the rescue coordinator for calling the rescue to release the hold for us. Our new dogs is integrating beautifully with our other dogs! We were fortunate to go during a time when adoption fees are being covered by a corporate sponsor. Our new little girl has heartworm so we will be going back to the clinic for budget friendly followup treatment. I will always return to Harris County Pets when we are looking for a new pet to bring into the family.
I adopted him on august 6th. When I got him he didn’t have a name so I decided on Noah 🖤 I did ask if he had any medical issues I need to worry about it they told me he was perfectly fine as soon as he got in my car he sounded absolutely terrible I thought he may be having a seizure and took him to the vet the next day he indeed has a lot of medical issues one being he had severe trauma to his skull and they believe a piece may have got stuck in his nose but thankfully with the right medication and treatment he will be okay 🖤
The Houston area has a surplus of animals and they are doing the best they can to help them find permanent homes. They only allow 3 to get seen outside of kennel and they don't have much insight in their personalities. I thought this was understandable but very limiting as personalities outside kennel can be very different and many would be overlooked. They do highlight the 3/3/3 rule which is important to understand if unfamiliar with dogs. Some kennels were dirty but I believe that is just the mess they made between clean ups. Not so messy I would believe they are living in filth/neglected. I was able to take the one I favored out to the play yard after the initial private room greeting and that further confirmed the connection I felt. Adoption holds are only done in person. I was shocked they didn't ask if others were living in my home. They asked about other pets, I assume for vet check, but not people/children. I still went and looked at other dogs at other shelters that day and could have withdrawn my adoption hold over the phone if another was favored but each dog I saw was mentally compared to him and my decision was finalized. There was a bit of confusion on my pickup appointment. Initially told neuter would occur Thursday then was called Tuesday to schedule pickup wed or thur. Scheduled for Thursday and received text confirmation but their computer had me listed as Wednesday pickup. Thankfully they called and I still was able to get my new dog, I would have been very disappointed if an error resulted in him going home with/adopted by someone else. We are still adjusting but I feel very confident in my selection and happy with the process overall.
My mom had been looking for a new fur baby and had been searching for a few weeks. We found Harris County Pets online and arrived as they were opening. We spoke with the lady working the desk to explain what we were looking for, mom likes small dogs. We were done in under 90 min, and my mom now has her new friend. Prices very and mom was prepared for the $40 fee but we got to counter and they said no charge. Mom then donated what she was prepared to pay. Lovely facility with a pet clinic as well. Go check them out if you need a new fur baby.
I managed to find my best friend, Nugget, here. And it was the easiest, most pleasurable experience. Not just for me, but for my grandson as well. He chose Nugget as the perfect therapy dog for his grandma. The staff at Harris County Pets are friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. Blessings to you all.
Animal shelter, the smell inside makes you can't stay in it for a long time. They are all adult dogs. You can only see puppies aged 4 to 8 months on weekends, but they are all stray dogs of mixed breeds. There is no good variety.I registered for an appointment a week ago and was happy to go to adopt a Labrador puppy, but the staff wouldn't let me check the puppy. Why? If the puppy is disabled, if he doesn't like me, at least interact with each other. Why is the staff so arrogant and prejudiced? I decided to go to another animal shelter to adopt one, and it will never come back!
