Description Houston Pets Alive! (HPA!) is not your average pet rescue. HPA! acts as a last resort for municipal shelters like BARC, Harris County Animal Shelter, and Baytown Animal Shelter, to save the animals who have been passed over by everyone else. Every day HPA! saves pets who have no other options-- typically neonatal or “bottle baby” kittens, nursing moms, dogs and cats with illnesses or injuries, and those with behavior issues--from euthanasia, within hours or even minutes. HPA! aims to increase live outcomes for these pets through robust adoption programs, high-volume spay and neuter, and community education. HPA! is determined to make Houston the largest no-kill city in the country.

A fantastic shelter with wonderful staff who take excellent care of all animals. We just adopted our baby Border Collie mix, Birdie, from HPA! a few days ago from here and could not have been happier with the process. After initially completing the application and noting that we were looking for a young dog that would get along with our cat, HPA! contacted us to let us know our adoption application was approved, and sent us options for pets they thought would be a good fit! We fell in love with Birdie immediately, and could not believe she had ever been on the euthanasia list at a different shelter. Her awesome foster mom, who also works for HPA! did a great job with her before she found her home with us, and even walked us through the adoption paperwork and process. This shelter is the most well-kept and well-managed one we have seen, and certainly lives up to its positive online reviews. It even has an on-site clinic and dog training facilities. Could not recommend Houston Pets Alive! more highly!!

I volunteer with the cats and just recently adopted a 3 month old dog. The cats are so cute and silly and i enjoy seeing a family take 1 or 2 home. For my own adoption, i Love that he came already neutered and with as many of his beginning shots and vaccines as he could with his age. He was already partly potty and crate changed bc of his time with a foster.

I found the perfect addition to my little family❤️🐶 I was originally looking for puppy schnauzers and seen Houston Pets Alive were going to be having some up for adoption! Well, I sent in my adoption application too late and all the puppies were claimed. Fortunately, a rep named Gail from Houston Pets Alive reached out to me and wanted us to still adopt a dog from them. I was preferring a smaller dog due to my other dog at home being small. Gail helped me out and sent some pictures of available dogs. That’s when I seen Esme, a cute little chihuahua mix. We met her and the foster a few days later and one of the best decisions I’ve ever made was adopting Esme. She is truly a perfect addition to our family and I wouldn’t have her without the generosity of Gail. I’m extremely grateful. 🐶🐶❤️ I love my girls.

We just adopted our puppy named Daisy Mae and although it was an overall amazing experience I do want to just give future adopters a little heads up. Our puppy was adopted on May 13th, she was so sweet and tiny. We were originally told they weren’t really sure about her age that she was somewhere between 8-12wks old, then on the adoption paperwork it said her DOB was 03/06/23, making her only 9.5 weeks old. We didn’t see any issue with that, we have a 9year old dog and they both got along. We were told that on May 17 she was ready for her 3rd DHHP shot and then after 1-2 wks we could take her on walks out side. Since we live in a townhouse with no yard this was perfect, she wouldn’t be locked in the house for too long and we could start potty training soon. I brought her to my vet on May 19th and my vet said she wasn’t due for her next DHHP shot for 2 more weeks. I was confused because that’s not what we were told by 3 different people at HPA. I called HPA’s vet clinic and they informed me that they have puppies on a ‘rushed’ vaccine schedule since they are in a shelter and that, yes, since she was adopted now she should be on a normal vaccine schedule… making her not eligible for the 3rd shot until June. It wouldn’t be a huge problem if we had a yard and we still take her on walks with our older dog, we just carry her so she can get use to being outside. With all that being said Daisy Mae has been an amazing addition to our family! It’s so cute seeing her show her personality and we wouldn’t change a thing!! Adopt don’t shop!

So a week before going I filled up the foster care form and since they are only open on Saturday I Called in and they agreed to take the kittens but said to come the same day and that’s what I did, went the same day Drove an hour to this place and guess what ? They said no because they already took someone’s else’s kitten and there is no more room ! Now tell me people ? Shouldn’t they inform me that they already got more kittens and there is no more room ! I wasted my 2 hours back and forth just to come here ! I was just fostering these kittens and needed a home for them and that’s the only reason I contacted these people and they said come but guess this place is not reliable and can’t be trusted and they also did not guarantee me that this is a no-kill shelter which is very scary

First time going here. my pups way 5lbs together. So I needed a place that was budget friendly and friendly. Shockingly HPA entire STAFF was fast, clean, gentle, and very friendly. When my pups got their shots they didn't even flench. 👏🎉😃. I really appreciated that they sent my invoice via email which helps me keep track of my pups records. I do recommend them to others. The only problem you might have is locating the office. It's located in the back on the corner of the building. You should see a gate that looks like a pet area with HPA signs. Then you'll Use the green door. Hope this helps someone out!😃
