Description The Wild Bird Fund is a wildlife rehabilitation center providing medical care and rehabilitation to injured, sick and orphaned wildlife in New York City with the goal of releasing them back to the wild. Patients include red-tailed hawks and peregrine falcons, as well as gulls, ducks, geese, songbirds and pigeons. Squirrels, opossums and turtles too. The city can be a tough place for wildlife, but it’s also a thriving habitat, with more than 250 species of birds recorded in Central Park. We aim to keep it that way. To this end, we also provide wildlife education programs to schools and organizations throughout the city. We are a state and federally licensed 501©(3) nonprofit.

Pretty straight forward experience. Found a small, injured bird on the sidewalk and delivered it to the fund. We had to fill out a short form outside (due to limited space I believe), and the woman there was very friendly. We were given a number/email to contact in a few weeks, in case we wanted to check in on the status of the bird. Thoughtful gesture.

I’ve been volunteering at the wild bird fund for about two years and it’s beyond a special space. Rita’s mission continues to help thousands of birds and native animals either to be re-released or sent to a sanctuary based on its needs. I constantly learn so much spending time helping out here and am so grateful it exists. The rehabbers are brilliant and birds are amazing.

The birds of this city owe a huge debt of gratitude to the amazing people who work here. NYC is the only major city in the developed world without a wildlife rescue. This private clinic provides a much needed service and has rescued thousands of birds and other wildlife.

DO NOT bring injured birds to them -- it will likely be the end of the bird's life. A few years ago, I found a bird (probably a starling) with a broken leg outside my residential building. I managed to catch her and brought her to this place in a shoebox. They accepted the bird and asked me to donate, which I did. They told me that I could follow up with them. Since then, I have written multiple emails to them but received no reply. About half a year later, I wrote to them again in a less friendly tone, and they finally responded, simply saying that they euthanized the bird because she was stressed -- on the same day I brought her in. ??? I am a biologist as well as an experienced bird lover. The bird was definitely NOT in a critical condition where euthanasia was the only option. I would have been able to take care of her myself if they had told me that was what they were going to do. In fact, I wouldn't have even caught the bird if it hadn't been a freezing cold winter at the time. She might have lived longer in the wild. Nevertheless, the facility appears to be legitimate based on its description, so I could do nothing but move on with a lingering question mark in my mind. That is, until today, when I saw someone suggesting people bring birds to this facility on social media. The memory came back to me, and I decided to dig deeper. Well, as it turns out I didn't have to dig very deep -- the rating of this facility looks fine on Google reviews at first glance. However, when I read through all the negative comments, I realized that I was not the only one who had this experience. The five-star comments share one thing in common: the people leaving those comments never followed up with the birds they brought in.

Was able to bring in a fancy pigeon that was found in a building. They were thorough in asking about it to be sure to gic.ve it the best care.

Dropped off a sick/injured pigeon there yesterday. The staff member I spoke with was so friendly and helpful. I’m so thankful for the Wild Bird Fund exists to help animals in need. God bless everyone working there
