I definitely agree cats as pets should be inside unless you live in a suburb area. People also need to be more responsible as cat owners an have them fixed to stop the cycle of being on these dangerous streets fighting for survival. I would love to see no cats,or feral cats or abandoned on the streets but it is just not foreseeable in the future, so until then these programs are a godsent for us pet owners.
Highly misguided project that does more harm to cats and wildlife than any perceived good. Cats belong indoors for their own safety as well as the safety of native wildlife. We should not treat pet cats any differently from pet dogs that we do not allow to roam the neighborhood unleashed.
They saved more wild female cats and kittens. Give birth always easier than found food in wild. I have three indoor cats,1 is TNR saving kitten ,2 from ACC NYC. I love them! And I wish I can join them to help wild cats.
I am waiting for a class. So that I can help the neiborhood cats. I finally recieved my TNR certification 10/6/2020. Its been a challenge to get appointments to spay the neighborhood cats. But I wont give up have to put a stop to the breeding..
When we found an injured stray that was hit by a vehicle and it's spine exposed for several days; they were one of the only organizations to respond. I hope they found him and were able to trap successfully and at the very least be able to refer to a rescue that will ease his pain in his last days in palliative care or euthanasia. These wounds are gejerally fatal and I hope you responded or trapped, even if he has to be put out of his misery. If love to see a happy ending but as a foster, TNF, volunteer and Transporter in LI, I was simply to far away to respond. Please let me know if he was trapped and taken in. It's so unfair to let him die on the streets in this type of pain. Love the work you do and wish you had resources to do more.
Some people want to stick with the old inhumane and ineffective system of cat control that involves trap and kill. It should noted that this method has been status quo for many decades and has failed miserably as the feral cat situation spun out of control . However, in areas where TNVR is applied, the population of feral and abandoned cats has been controlled which has a positive effect on native wildlife and public safety. I applaud NYC Feral Cat Initiative for their outstanding work and wish them well as they continue to make a difference in the face of bogus anti cat propaganda that does no good whatsoever. Keep on !!!
