Most of you probably have experienced contacting 311 to report animal abuse and getting nowhere. Low and behold, the animal abuse part is Alexandra Silver's (director of the Mayor’s Office of Animal Welfare) responsibility. Obviously Ms. Silver doesn't or is unable to do her job effectively, especially with the amount of animal abuse that is out in the open, everyday in the city. This was much like Sept 13th Health Committee meeting. The testimony of Ms. Silver made it clear that she has not done much of anything to help NYC or its stray animals. As a TNR rescuer and volunteer, it was frustrating to witness her generally not be prepared for the basic questions from the committee and to put on a fake "shocked" performance when 311 was accused of not taking animal abuse seriously. It goes without saying that Ms. Silver is being coached by someone in her office to not be bothered with the public outcry of animal abuse. So who is it and why is Ms. Silver listening to this person? Is it her boss Commissioner Fred Kreizman, who would be proving himself to be incompetent in this area too? Regardless, the only responsible action at this point would be for Ms. Silver to resign from her post. Because we all know that Mayor Adams is unqualified and not good enough to realize Ms. Silver has to be terminated.

Good Afternoon - On Friday, October 27th, I received a panicked message from my daughter telling me that the kitten that she was fostering was not able to walk. My daughter said she got into an UBER and took her over to the ER. SHe said she was told that she should leave the kitten and they would contact her tomorrow with an update. Less than an hour later, she received a call that the kitten had Fading Kitten Syndrome and that they euthanized the kitten. HOW is this even possible?? According to your mission, it states that "At the Humane Rescue Alliance, we honor more than 150 years of commitment to protecting animals, supporting families, and advocating for positive change to create a world where all animals can thrive." How were you able to euthanize the kitten and not do the HUMANE thing and call and ask the Foster Parent - my daughter if she wanted to return to the ER to say goodbye to the kitten? She is HEARTBROKEN. What transpired does not follow YOUR MISSION AT ALL!!! She is in DC and I am in NYC hearing my daughter is upset. She understood that if putting the kitten down was the best thing, why was there NOT AN OPTION for her to say her goodbyes to the kitten. She fostered this kitten for 9 days and had grown attached to it. How is a Phone call telling her AFTER THE kitten has been euthanized the HUMANE and KIND thing to do? PLEASE explain this to me! I need an explanation of why this happened. This is incredibly discouraging and she will be sure to advise others if they want to foster to be weary of this. This experience was heartless and I am so upset and disappointed by whoever made this decision to not call my daughter first, tell her what needed to happen and then allow her to say goodbye to the kitten. Would she be any less sad - absolutely not, BUT she would have closure and said her goodbyes. This incident was UNACCEPTABLE, HEARTLESS and NOT HUMANE!!! NO ONE called me back regarding this incident and I will not stop sharing this experience until Someone is held ACCOUNTABLE and RESPONSIBLE!!!

Heartless and useless. Suggested taking a feral cat with broken leg (but still active and healthy) to ACC to euthanize it. It makes me mad that our taxes go to this organization.
