Saturday, Bishops Animal Shelter put on a well organized event promoting animal wellness. They were vaccinating and adding chips for your pets for free. We drove up and was directed up the gate. There was no need to get out of cars. This brought much happiness to us and our pets. We arrived at the tents. After the paperwork, we were met with smiling faces of the team. They gave us pet food, flea medications, bowls, collars, and pet toys. We drove up, handed the cat carriers out the window, and then we were done. Amazing event. Much appreciated. You all did a fantastic job. Thank you so much!
I took a pup to this shelter today after finding him outside my front door on my way to work this morning at 6am. I have a big cover area where I believe pup was trying to find shelter because it was raining this morning. Because pup looked a little rough and was bleeding I quickly bathe him and gave him water and food and left pup inside my home until I came back from work to locate owner around my neighborhood. Once I came home I walked around my entire neighborhood and no one had seen or claim pup. I then decided to take pup to local shelter. When I arrived the lady at the desk was already busy with a phone call so I waited patiently, also I came with all my kids because I had picked them up from school and daycare on my way to shelter. Anywho, finally another staff member came and started to question where I lived and asked for driver license to open a profile and then said I had to sign off that I was surrendering the pup to shelter. I then said I am not surrendering I am saving pup it’s not my pup and I found this lost puppy at my property and wanted to help him. She continue to insist I hand over my license and I felt so uncomfortable and said no I don’t understand why I have to provide so much information if I am trying to help. I was feeling sick to my stomach because I knew they were profiling me because I came with all my kids! I then said you guys are making me feel like I’m getting prosecuted for trying to help this pup and then after I told them this pup came to me early morning bleeding and I helped as much as I could before I went to work that’s when they quickly put gloves on and examine pup. They then made me sign off 3 forms in which I was not able to read because it was shown on their computer screen only. Before signing I did mention that it’s best to just leave pup outside their door because they make you feel so uncomfortable trying to help a helpless animal. She said you can’t because that abandonment and police can be involved I said how if it’s not my pup I found it and trying to recuse by bringing it here. I ended up signing everything because then another staff explained that getting your information helps communicate if dog has some harmful disease and if they needed to inform me they can locate me that’s way. I low key knew they were saying anything at this point. I signed off because my kids were getting agitated and I was feeling sick. I left feeling like I should never help another lost animal ever! I think staff need to do better and not assume things based on first impressions. You be surprised the ones you think are the blame are really the nicest souls! I really hope I left this pup in the right shelter! The shelter on the outside looks very fancy and huge. Once inside seem a bit low staff but employees can do better. I hope someone can see these pics and pick up pup because after seeing rest of the reviews I may have put him in harm. I shared before and after photos so you can see pup was very scared that morning and once we gave him a warm home for a few hours he was so playful and joyful.
The staff really care about the animals . We have adopted two dogs and also I began volunteering - in the medical clinic & also fostering . The kennel staff takes such good care of the pups & in medical every animal gets 100% what a great organization to be a part of .
The most compassionate staff! Especially appreciate all of their help after the hurricanes. My dog was missing for 3 weeks, and they were so helpful. They truly care about all of the animals.
What a great place, staff are friendly and they genuinely care for the animals. Their layout and treatment area's are impressive and clean. We fostered 3 kittens and will continue to do so.
The 2 Ladies at the front desk seem very cranky, and not very friendly, more or less Miserable , but who can blame them , they must have it really rough with that job, I don't know if I could be very happy either seeing all these animals that come in Mistreated and Abandoned.. On the positive side I did have a good experience never the less getting my dog back after she escaped by yard. We had been trying for months to get an appointment at Humane Society to have her spayed, but never able to get an appointment, and calling almost every day for 3 months to see if there was an appointment available, it's a real stressful process, but to tell the truth, I wish my dog would of escaped long before she did, because not only did they do the spaying , they chipped her, gave her a dog tag and all her shots for only $20. This was unbelievable the veterinarians office that was the cheapest one out there was $685 just to have her Spayed, I was I was Flabbergasted at this and so thankful, even the Humane Society , was going to charge $80, so "Lillipop" my Jack Russell who had escaped, saved me a butt load of money by getting put in the pound. Hopefully she doesn't ever get out again , but now she has her CHIP.
