This is a long overdue review I had a 19 pound Shih Tzu that started experiencing a cough. I was able to get him in for an appointment and was told that it was a heart condition and not a cold. I was grateful to get the information after X-rays and some other things I was told that there was not much they could do. My dog then started experiencing episodes that were like fainting, but totally alert. Dr. A told me he was having seizures. I had a dog with epilepsy and a few family members with silent seizures and fainting disorders, so I’m pretty familiar and explained that he wouldn’t be totally alert if that were the case. She gave him epilepsy medication but still said there was nothing she could do for his heart. Her words were, he’s just too small for heart medication. A different doctor walked out while I was panicking because my dog froze again. She checked him and said you need to go somewhere else and get a second opinion. I ended up going to North Bay- excellent facility with the correct machines. My 19 pound dog was perfectly fine getting the heart medication Dr. A said he could not have. We ended up with 6 more months of a highly active, non freezing, happy playful dog. If it was up to Dr. A he probably would have died much sooner due to a miscalculation of weight and dosage and her thoughts of him being too small to receive proper medication.

I am very impressed with the care that was provided to my cat Coco. The vet and tech were very thorough with their exam and also considerate of cost. Before preforming any tests they thoroughly explained what is recommended and the cost associated with it. I found the cost to be more affordable than other vet clinics in fancy, renovated buildings. The vet and the tech took their time examining coco, took their time explaining the x-rays, took time to show me how to use the nebulizer and walk me through the medicine schedule, and made time after hours to call me as soon as his blood work results were available even just to let me know the blood work was good! Coco has immediately responded well to the treatment they provided. I was recommended to come here by a friend and I would recommend others as well.

Everything about my experience here was great. My poor boxer fell off a 15' roof while we were vacationing in Tampa. They got us in same day and took the best care of my boy. No broken bones or serious damage. Just a sore pup. So grateful for your workers. Thank you for caring and SHOWING that. We appreciate all of you. Booner is doing well and basically back to his old self..just no more superman stunts😪😅

At first I believed this could be a place my pet could come to when he felt sick, however the recent visit to Southpaw left me thoroughly disappointed and frustrated. As a pet owner who deeply cares about the well-being of my furry friend, I expect professionalism, compassion, and expertise from any veterinary service. Unfortunately, Southpaw failed to deliver on all fronts. I never leave reviews but this called for one. I was at school and unable to attend my fur babies appointment in which my boyfriend stepped in for me. I had called ahead so they new exactly what services I was requiring and not to try to tack on anything extra however they did just that and took advantage. So when I called already frustrated after class the receptionist seemed disinterested and unwelcoming, barely acknowledging what I had to say. I expressed to her there was no need for an exam fee that my dog was there for vaccines and that was that, she went on to say because my bf asked for the prescription they did not give me three weeks prior when I was there for his annual and because the doctor touched his stomach and told my bf about a mass he had it warranted for that fee. I said that makes no sense I was already aware of this that was why i paid to get it biopsied and extra blood work done in which I never even got the results back for that. She then put me on hold comes back and tells me well actually regardless I would get charged this exam fee because a Dr would have to administer the rabies shot so the $73.00 was for seeing the Dr. So in turn the rabies vaccine at Southpaw comes out the about $100 because a doctor has to do. The exorbitant fees charged for the subpar service and lack of customer service only added to my frustration. I hung up feeling disheartened and doubting whether my pet received the level of care they deserved. THIS IS JUST ONE PET OWNERS OPINION BUT I strongly advise pet owners to steer clear of this place. There are plenty of other veterinary clinics in the area that prioritize the well-being of animals and provide the high-quality care that every pet deserves.

Couldn’t recommend southpaw more. I was a new client, and they were kindly able to see my dog last minute because his symptoms were extremely concerning. You can tell Dr. Cruz genuinely cares and works hard, and the rest of the staff were amazing as well. Will definitely be returning here

An elite level of care and consideration. I cannot stress enough that all who are employed at this facility CARE. No person going through the motions just doing the job, all employees exhibited professionalism, knowledge, and compassion. I would like to single out Dr. Hannon in particular for her help with my sick dog Liberty, and all she did to check her stem to stern to find out what it was that was making Libby so sick. Over the course of the day she, and others, stayed in constant contact with upcoming tests and procedures, while doing their best to keep costs down. My dog is back to her happy self and it’s all because of the wonderful team at Southpaw. If you are anywhere in Tampa and need a vet, do not hesitate to take your beloved pets to this clinic.
