Description "VEG is the emergency vet you can rely on to be there for you and your pet when you need it most."
I cannot praise this team enough. They saved our dog’s life and I am forever grateful. We rushed our 9 year old Great Dane named Annabelle in with signs of bloat (inverted stomach) and the team responded instantly. We called on our way there and when we arrived, they had every door open and every person on deck ready. X-ray to confirm and then immediately prepped for emergency surgery. 24 hours later and our girl is back home with us recovering. Dr. Baden was the Dr. who performed the surgery and she and her team were phenomenal. The team who took over for the night shift was equally as amazing and I wish I could personally thank every single person who helped our Annabelle. This is an emergency vet so yes they are on the pricier side, that said, I wouldn’t even consider going elsewhere if my pets life was on the line. Thank you again VEG.
I brought my dog here to end his suffering and I feel like I failed. Charlie was very ill and need peace. I was going to wait for a real vet to open but in the middle of the night he started crying out. I rushed him here to have a quick end but that is not what happened. First thing was "Pay Me". Of course that's what these places are about $. So I do. $450 to put the dog to sleep. That's fine he was a good dog deserves the best. But just because you pay high rates don't expect good care. For an hour Vet Techs jab him with needles trying to find a vein. Finally they give him a sedative because even though he can barely move he starts to try and escape what is being done to him. Then it is back to jabbing. After an extremely long time Charlie finally gets to see a Vet. The Vet literally takes three minutes to find a vein and end this horrible ordeal. These places are extremely expensive training facilities. They quickly and skillfully processed the transaction but when it came to treating the animal it seemed less competent. I know he had low blood pressure. And he had small veins. But why did it take an hour to get a Vet in the room? I wanted a quick and painless end to my friends suffering. I feel like I failed him by not demanding to see a Vet. You made a very traumatic thing more traumatic. And my grieving is so much worse because I feel bad that I didn't do more to protect my dog. Please take your dog to a real vet.
I unfortunately had to bring my cat in twice in one week for a wound on her leg however they were so great with us both times. The first time I had to bring my 4 year old daughter with me and they had snacks and coloring books/crayons ready to keep her entertained. Bonnie said “I’m here for you and everyone else is here for your pet” and I immediately felt so much better. It truly is a little ER for your fur babies, they exam them as soon as you walk in. My cat is starting to feel better and act like herself. They are truly angels, I will forever recommend this business for emergencies. Thank you so much! See you guys in a week to get Hazel’s drain removed!
VEG in South Tampa is worth the drive from Valrico. They were so incredibly kind, caring, gentle, and efficient in an emergency situation with our 15.5 year old, 70lb dog that ingested many things she should’t have. They took the time to explain everything they were doing and gave us options about her care. They gave us different estimates as well as pros and cons for keeping her overnight as well as taking her home. We chose to keep our dog there because we could see they were going to make her comfortable and give her better care there than we could give her at home. Although I had to pay up front for the higher estimate, Dr. Sparks called first thing in the morning just as she said she would, to let us know how well our dog was doing and that she could go home as soon as we could get out there to pick her up. They refunded us quite a bit of what I had already paid because she was ready sooner than they had estimated. That was almost as big of a relief as our dog being almost back to herself. Our visit at VEG could not have gone any better. They were wonderful! They are also far cheaper than other ER vets I have been to and we would love it if they would open a location in Eastern Hillsborough County.
Took my girl there today after my other dog bit her last night. I was really nervous and feared being judged because I didn’t bring her in immediately when it happened late last night, but also because it was my other dog that did it. And in all honestly, the wounds were worse than my husband and I believed it to be initially. She herself is also a very nervous dog at the vet and today she was especially scared and nervous. I was really happy with the care she received and the compassion the entire staff had. I love the open concept that they have and the fact that I was able to be by her side when they were debriding, cleaning, and stitching her wound. I didn’t feel judged and felt like they loved her even though she wasn’t too thrilled to be there. And even if they didn’t love her, at the very least they genuinely just wanted to care for her in the best way possible. Everyone seemed happy to be there and like they enjoyed their job which means a lot in this type of work. They were upfront about the costs and gave me options, and gave me genuine opinions on what they felt was needed versus what may not be entirely necessary. Although it was expensive, it’s well worth the money knowing that there is a 24 hour center that I can trust with my dogs. I’m hoping we won’t need emergency services again anytime soon, but I would come back without a doubt. Also, we spent about 3 hours there which I think is great for an emergency clinic that had quite a few other guests 🙂
1:30 AM emergency vet visits are always going to be an experience etched into permanent memory and coupled with heightened anxiety for your pet’s well-being. With that said and considering the circumstances, there isn’t 1 thing the VEG staff could have done better for my pup’s care and I’m so thankful for their services! My pup was immediately triaged, evaluated by the tech and doctor to ensure she was stable, she had a full blood work up with X-rays, IV infusion to rehydrate her, and had her 5 prescriptions in hand within 2 hours. By comparison, my local vet immediately admits all emergency visits regardless of symptoms so you incur an additional boarding charge and communication updates back to the owner does not happen until business hours the next day. The VEG staff clearly and explicitly explained each medication and administration instructions. They patiently responded to my questions and showed so much affection and compassion to my pup to calm her nerves. The doctor even sent home a few cans of special diet dog food after I expressed my concerns of her rapid weight loss from an onset of (most likely) colitis… They also gave me clear instructions to monitor her condition over the next 24 hours for an immediate return emergency visit which would indicate she had parasites instead of colitis. They stated the meds will typically not take affect for at least 24 hours but to my relief, her condition immediately improved after the visit and 1st dose of meds. This is a true emergency clinic with an open treatment room where several animals were undergoing different treatments simultaneously. The staff hustled about, ensuring the most critical conditions were prioritized. The professionalism of the staff was apparent and they were in perfect sync. They went above and beyond to ensure every animal had personalized patient care and each owner was treated as if they were also top priority. Highly recommend!
