Life changing experience to adopt a dog from FCDS. Really great organization that does wonderful things for the community - like free vaccination drives. I adopted my pup, Carmen (shelter name), from here a few months ago and she’s an amazing dog. 5 year old shepherd mix (obviously everything is a guess since she was a stray). She came spayed, heartworm tested, with her Bordetella, DA2PPv series, and 1 yr rabies vaccinations AND with a microchip, various meds for her post-spay surgery and a 1 year Franklin County dog license. In addition, you can do a free training with a dog trainer included in the fee. All of those things together would be so much, especially the vax, but FCDS has excellent, community-friendly pricing. She also came with instructions that she was reactive - was advised to muzzle train her for vet visits and was pretty anxious so they dosed her with quite a bit of trazadone and gabapentin daily. I took this opportunity to train her into an amazing dog in the 4 months since I got her. I took her on at least 3 miles of walks a day, she gained 15 lbs (underweight since she was a stray), and taught her some manners and tricks for enrichment and confidence boosting. She is now 100% off all meds and lives a great life with me :) When I tell you this dog smiles ear-to-ear each day and brings me endless joy it’s no lie. Please know these dogs may be under stress at the shelter and just need some time away from that chaos to adapt - give your new dog AT LEAST 3 weeks with you before you consider surrendering. It was heartbreaking sitting in the lobby waiting for my pup and 2 people came in to surrender 2 of their dogs :*( Thank you for all you do, FCDS!

Adopted a dog on Saturday. Process was smooth and didn't take too long. We actually got a dog that we had seen on their website. The website is not always up to date, so we got lucky. They gave us a lot of info on the dog's behavior in foster and at the shelter, so we knew what to expect. Overall a great experience and a day we will never forget!

I only give this facility two stars because it seems the staff in the back truly love the animals and take wonderful care of them. HOWEVER, my husband and I went on a Sunday morning before opening to meet a dog there. There happened to be another family there for the same dog. Because of this, the receptionist said that it’s not a first come first serve basis and that there would be a raffle for who would be able to adopt the dog to make it fair. Okay, totally fine with this. We went inside, filled out our raffle ticket and waited. Several minutes later, a staff member called the first family. My husband proceeded to ask said receptionist if we would also have a chance to meet him. She said “well since there’s only two of you, we aren’t doing the raffle.” So of course, the first family took him and we didn’t even get to meet him. While I completely understand that the first family arrived 10 minutes before us, they should have honored what they said they were going to do. We would’ve left less devastated if we would have lost out on the dog in the raffle. The receptionist was rude and clearly didn’t care. We won’t be going back.

I was so grateful that they found and returned my dog safely. It cost a lot but it was worth it to get to spend a few more months with her.

Horrible people that work there. Wont come out to investigate a dog left abandoned in a car. I should smash windows and give it food. Owner can pay for own damage or the franklin county shelter can. Shame on you people. Hell is waiting on you people….. poor dog.

The workers at this place are hardworking amazing individuals! Thankfully we already had one in mind but they were so helpful. The guy who brought her to us knew so much information about her breed and animals in general. He also knew a lot about the dog herself. Nutmeg, which we now call Shiloh. I could tell he had really taken the time to pay attention to her likes and dislikes. I appreciated that and all of his helpful advice. Thanks for the toy you gave her, she loves it.
