Description Pilot Dogs, Inc. was established in 1950 to train and furnish Pilot Dogs to guide the blind. Since its first class of four students, the program has grown to serve more than 150 individuals each year. These individuals come to us from all over the United States, as well as many foreign countries. Our original mission has not changed: To provide the finest of dog guides to the qualified sightless. Pilot Dogs are trained to offer greater mobility and independence. Pilot Dogs are available to legally blind individuals who would benefit from such dogs. An individual is considered legally blind if the visual acuity in their better eye is 20/200 with the best possible correction, or their visual field is 20 degrees or less.

Steve Holt trained me O&M. He was a wonderful teacher. I feel confident with the white cane and have used it so much since I have been home. The staff was very friendly. The room was clean and comfortable. The cook was amazing. They made me feel right at home and special.

You people are heartless you go and take a dog away from someone who is grieving over the loss of their husband, that knows that family pretty well, if you know animals like you claim to know them you will also know that animals grieve like humans do and that dog needs to stay where he’s at. What if that dog doesn’t work good for the next person? Have you ever thought about that? That dog could die if grieving have a heart you jerks.

I went for white cane training. I can’t say enough about the training Steve H. Gave me during my two week stay there it built my confidence. I was also given an opportunity to take a dog for a walk if I wanted to. I would highly recommend this school for either someone wanting a dog or cane training. The staff is excellent and so caring.

I love this agency. I received my dog two years ago. I have used him daily to continue to be independent. The staff and trainers are the best! They care for the dogs and the clients equally. It was a great experience and when I need a new dog I will not hesitate to call Pilot Dogs. Jake (the trainer) and Ray are wonderful people.
