Description Cat adoptions inside Petco Union Square
Website https://kittykind.org/
We recently adopted Chico, a 6-month-old (or so) tuxedo kitten who we adore. The volunteers at KittyKind were kind, knowledgeable & they love cats. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Twenty years ago, we adopted 2 sibling tuxedo kittens from Kitty Kind and we had a long & beautiful relationship with them both--they died at 16 years and 19 years. I have a great deal of trust & gratitude for KittyKind.
KittyKind is a wonderful organization and I highly recommend anyone who is interested in adopting a cat to check them out! They partner with the Union Square Petco location and hold adoption hours several days each week. I adopted a handsome boy "Tommy". He came neutered and vaccinated. It was discovered shortly after adopting him that he had an umbilical cord hernia, and thankfully KittyKind got in touch with the vet they work with and covered the full cost of treatment. They clearly care about the cats and want to place them in good homes. The $150 adoption fee is arguably the best $150 I've ever spent.
My fiancée and I had an exceptional experience with KittyKind. We had recently moved into a new apartment and decided it was time to adopt. We knew we wanted a bonded pair, and Allie and the rest of the team introduced us to two adorable furballs. We fell in love immediately and brought them home just a few days later. The team clearly cares deeply about the cats in their care, and they do their best to make absolutely sure that each one goes to a good home. I can't recommend them enough for anyone looking to adopt. (As you can see, they've warmed up to us quite quickly, and it's been such a joy to have them in our home. )
We love KittyKind! My husband and I adopted our Tuxedo girl, Bunny Bloom, from them almost 10 years ago and have kept in touch ever since. The volunteers are so caring and diligent about the adoption process and getting the right homes for their cats. Highly recommend! Here’s our gorgeous girl! 😻
We only adopt from Kitty Kind. Even though there are other orgs, the people committed to saving and finding home for cats and kittens surpasses all expectations and experiences with other orgs that have far more resources. We have gotten to know the volunteers over the years and their ability to properly place and care for these animals is astounding. I say properly because adopting an animal is a commitment. As we have seen when people move, for instance, many cats and dogs can be abandoned, or perhaps the allure of having a pet wears off. So Kitty Kind really makes sure the animals are going to a stable, caring, and secure home. It’s not like you are ordering a Big Mac from McDonald’s. There is so much need and they meet this challenge with heartfelt determination and tenacity. There are many orgs and causes to support. This is on the top of my list. You can donate money, food, or simply adopt. In photo: Our cats from Kitty Kind below.
Four stars because although KittyKind brought us the perfect kitten addition to our home, we did have several issues that were the result of poor communication amongst the volunteers. The first kitten we tried to adopt was listed as not bonded and some volunteers told us he was ours, immediately followed by other volunteers disagreeing and saying he was bonded and we would be unable to adopt him (this was a discussion that was had in front of us, versus privately). As for the kitten we ended up adopting, there was lots of confusion/back-and-forth about whether or not he was actually suited for adoption, yet he was listed on the website. Also, the person who was fostering our kitten was slow to respond and was hesitant for no reason to crate and collect our kitten to bring him to Petco for us to bring home, all of which was frustrating and delayed us being able to bring our kitten home by several weeks. We did end up with the perfect kitten for us but it was a major process to get there and much more complicated than it needed to be. I can tell the volunteers care deeply about the cats’ wellbeing, but can also see how some of these obstacles would deter perfectly willing and capable owners from wanting to adopt through KittyKind.
