Description Our mission is to provide state-of-the-art veterinary medicine and surgery for the pets of South Florida. We strive to do this with an emphasis on compassion, and on recognizing and honoring the deep bond that exists between our clients and their companion animals. South Federal Animal Hospital was founded in 1969 by Dr. Joe Kashner and Dr.Alberto Meilan. Dr. Robin Stelljes joined the practice in 2003 and became the new Medical Director and practice owner in 2015. We are a full-service diagnostic, medical and surgical care center for your pet. Our goal is to provide high quality veterinary medical and dental care to dogs and cats, and outstanding service to their families.
South Federal Animal Hospital is one of the best Veterinary facilities that I have ever found. I am new to Fort Lauderdale, and I tried two others. I had not been impressed. Then a friend gave me referred me to South Federal. We see, Dr Katz, but everyone there is knowledgeable, professional and friendly. My cat Xena, a 13 year old, Blue Point Balinese, always seems content there. Sadly Xena has Kidney Disease. Regardless, while waiting for Dr Katz to come in, I let her walk around the exam room. Notice how completely relaxed she is there. When the doctor and the assistent came into the room, they were surprised, but okay with it. Xena ran over to them, all happy, they picked her up, they said many nice things about her in a happy, kitty friendly tone, and then preceded with the exam and visit. At one point they took her in the back to do a blood draw, or something similar. It all went well. Dr Katz came back with her and Xena was content. (not so at the other clinics) The doctor informed me on how she is doing.... All normal for Xena and I was content. I feel very fortunate that Xena is one of Dr. Katz's patients. For no reason, I just felt like chronically my cat's life I guess, I took photos of her before the vet came in, and notice how relaxed she it just looking around, and jumping up to the sink... I turned on the water for her and Xena started drinking... A minute later, Dr. Katz came in with her assistant, and they were surprised, but okay with it. The doctor understood why.... with Kidney disease cats need to drink constantly... they get very thirsty all the time. Notice Xena is drinking from the spigot. All in all I appreciate their understanding, their appreciation of their clients. Xena has hated many vets... she can get VERY upset actually when she is manhandled....but she loves South Federal, and so do I. Just because, I happened to take photos of Xena walking around. I wish I had taken photos of the staff. Next time!!
Dr. Katz and her office are amazing. She truly cares about each pet that comes into her clinic. Listening and making sure the owners are heard. Getting down on the floor with your pet and giving them lots of love and attention. I’ve been to a few other veterinarians In the area and left unhappy. This is far from the case from this office. Today I brought my 2nd dog in for an ear infection, after mistakenly making an appointment at a different wrong vet. But they took the time and squeezed me in. Thank you
My dogs have been going to South Federal Animal Hospital for 8 years now. Their main vet is Dr. Katz (who we adore), but honestly we love all the vets Dr. Stelljes and Dr. Vergne are amazing as well. I trust all of the vets, and staff at South Federal. I recently read a post that was saying Jenna, (who has been there as long as my dogs have), was rude and uncaring. Jenna has helped us many of times. I have never experienced anything, but professionalism and kindness toward not only my animals, but toward myself as well. Jenna is very intelligent and loves all of the animals as much as we do. We have always had the most caring professional experience at South Federal. If you want excellent care and a warm welcoming staff you should take your pets here.
Dr. Krysta Seraydar is one of a kind veterinarian, she will always go the extra mile to care for our companions, she's extremely knowledgeable and very patient and gentle with our cats. She took her time and answered all of our questions and concerns. China the front desk veterinarian assistant was kind and very friendly. Even though is a bit far for us to go there, we'll continue to take our cats there for top of the line care!
Dr Vergne + her tech assistant Manuela are amazing ! I’ve been going to this vet since 2018 - highly recommend ! Isabella & Kayla at the front desk took care of me. No wait at all! Say hi to the fur babies at the front desk too! Pepper, Winston
I have been a customer of South Federal Animal Hospital (SFAH) for about 1 year now, and thus far, I have not had any complaints. In fact, Dr. Vergne is excellent! She recently operated on one of my dogs and I was very pleased with the result even though I was nervous at first. Therefore, this review is in no way meant to include the quality of her service. Additionally, most of the other staff members there are excellent as well. However, the front desk person, Jenna, leaves a lot to be desired and makes me question whether or not this will be the appropriate facility for my dogs to continue receiving care. I have three boys and as a result, my husband and I have spent quite a bit of funds at SFAH to ensure our dogs remain healthy and happy. I am saying this because if you are an ongoing customer with two, soon to be three, large male dogs, ensuring they remain healthy can be quite costly. With that being said, I inadvertently made an error today and assumed my Cane Corso's (puppy) appointment was today, when in reality, it is next week. Initially, the familiar assistant (don't know her name) told me about the error and offered to see my dog, but in an hour. At first thought, I didn't want to wait, but then decided to do so because my puppy has diarrhea and I want to be sure he is okay and not have him wait a week to be seen. I had stepped outside to my car, changed my mind and returned and encountered Jenna. Jenna is new or at least she is new to me (I have not had the misfortune to experience her quality customer service in the past). When I came back in, Jenna told me my puppy could be seen, but she was going to charge me an emergency rate of $125.00. Imagine my surprise! The other lady didn't say that! My first thought was, "why would she attempt to charge me double the price?" "I am not a new customer!" "Or is she basing the decision to do so on something else?" -- just a wondering. And if the response to that statement is that everybody gets charged that price if you make an error about your appointment date. Well, my husband and I have spent quite a bit of funds at SFAH and that should at least factor in. As I write this review, I am looking at the last 6 receipts and the amount comes to close to $5000 when you include my one dog's surgery. But I will stop there in reference to the amount of funds spent because when I reflect on this, I shouldn't have to do this. I am an ongoing customer, I didn't receive any reminders for the appointment, I made an error with the week of the appointment (I own that), but most importantly, my puppy is sick . In closing, no, my dog was not seen there today and it was not because I couldn't afford it, but because I was not giving them that.
