Amazing organization with amazing volunteers! First learned about Loudoun Wildlife's fantastic nature programs while joining their annual butterfly count years ago. Their programs are top notch and invaluable if you want to learn more about the wildlife that lives within our midst. Since then I've been able to partake in night-time star gazing, stream monitoring, the Audubon-at-Home program, and more. The programs are free to members with a small donation ($35) or a nominal fee to non-members. This organization is one that makes living in Loudoun so very worth it. I thought I knew a lot about wildlife habitat but so much I thought was good was not so, and vice versa. Have learned so much about the local flora and fauna and the invasives that try to compete with and often displace our native plants, as well as ways to manage and remove the bad guys so natives can thrive. And because of these programs my family has a greater understanding of the importance of promoting and maintaining ecological balance in my own back yard. Definitely check them out, volunteer or support them with a donation, if you haven't already.
Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy is one of the best non-profit organizations in Loudoun County. First, their level of community outreach and free educational programs (such as birding walks and butterfly counts) are top notch. You can do a free wildlife program with LWC almost every weekend, if you want to. Second, their advocacy has positively helped keep Loudoun a place where suburban development and wildlife can thrive together. Through their advocacy efforts, they have minimized impacts of development pressures from the county. Their bluebird monitoring program has over 100 volunteers who have helped recover this native and once-threatened species. It's a great organization, and you should consider donating or participating today!
This group offers wonderful nature oriented programs which I totally enjoy. They offer regular monthly bird walks at some of Loudoun's fabulous wildlife locations. Programs for all ages. Love this organization and its mission to conserve habitat in Loudoun County and help people and wildlife thrive together.
