Very honest review, since I read so many bad reviews. I actually considered driving the extra hour to a different ER but I'm glad that I didn't. The positives: our dog has been home for a week and almost back to her normal self. She went in because she ingested something toxic and poison control urged us to rush her to the vet. We called ahead and barely waited. We also took our cat with us, because he threw up, but he was given the all clear. Every single person I spoke to was kind, answered my questions, and I feel like they also asked a lot of questions to get a good idea of the situation. She ended up having to stay the night, and while the cost was $1000 more than a night at our regular vet, I understand that the costs of running a 24/7 facility with very intensive care, justifies the price. We were also given an estimate and had to deposit the highest amount. However, they did return the difference when they discharged her because she didn't require all the treatments they had anticipated. That to me shows integrity; they could have just kept the full amount. The negatives: I never received a receipt. I only know how much I paid because of the credit card statement. I've seen other reviews saying they did email all that info, and I know that they were quick to send the records to our regular vet, so I'm willing to accept that maybe in a moment of stress, I wrote down my information incorrectly. So this one could be on me. The second one is: communication. I called at 6pm to see if I could get an update and was told the doctor would call all overnight patients before going home. I called again at 10pm and spoke with a very nice lady who explained they had been swamped with critical cases and would call when they did rounds. She also told me no calls was a good sign. I waited until 1am before giving up and trying to sleep. I also understand that it's more important for them to be with patients than to answer phones; I just wish someone would have said they wouldn't call back unless something changed in her prognostics. I called again at 6am because we were scheduled to pick her up at 7 and was told she was stable enough to be moved to our regular vet, but not well enough to go home. They were at capacity when we got there and clearly very busy. The nurse I spoke to wasn't the same one who had stayed with her overnight but they were able to tell me most of her symptoms had improved, just failed to mention the she had liquid stools and not able to control it. Would have appreciated the heads up. Overall, they did a great job and I'm not sure she would have made it thought the night if not for their care. The negatives are very minor inconveniences, especially now that she's home and well and I'm able to think clearly. I also have zero complaints about their customer service, everyone I spoke to showed empathy and concern, was professional and patient, even while I probably rambled and cried the whole time. I'm glad we chose a facility close to home so she could be seen as quickly as possible.

Words truly can't express how grateful and thankful we are for the phenomenal doctor's, techs, and staff at The Veterinary Emergency Referral Center. They saved my baby boy's life! Hands down I really can't verbally express how AMAZING everyone here has been to my Rex and to us as his family. It is very unfortunate to read all those negative reviews and I'm here to tell you that this hospital and the specialty care they provide is EXCEPTIONAL! We have nothing but wonderful things to say. My Rexie is a 7 year old chihuahua. My baby suffered a stroke (loss function of front legs, excessive panting, unregulated temp and excruciating pain) and The Veterinary Emergency Referral Center saved his life. We had to drive over 2 hours from Wilmer, AL to get him there for the crisis we were in as the Mobile emergency vet was not equipped to care for his needs. We were met by the front receptionist (Dalia--- the greatest!!!) who immediately took Rex and rushed him to the back for care. They then put us (me, my husband, and my 19 year old son) in a room. The nurse immediately came in and talked to us, the Emergency doctor (Dr. Takalo) came in and was very passionate and transparent in options and treatment for Rex. She was focused on helping my sweet boy! At this point, we didn't know he had a stroke. They worked diligently to help him. He did have to stay over night and had a MRI and spinal tap with specialty care provided by Dr.Nanai. She is so knowledgeable and explains things in ways to help you understand. Very long story short... my Rex is home and fully recovering. If you have an emergency and/or require specialty care, this is the place to go. Quick run down: 🐾 🐾 ♥️♥️💙💙🐾🐾 ♥️They kept Rex comfy and exceeded my expectations for the quality of care he received. 💙Front desk was phenomenal and very empathetic (did I mention our emergency occurred at night and at 1:30 in the morning Dalia was helping me through the financial part since my bank was closed and debit card had daily limit.) ♥️This is this cleanest facility ever! They play peaceful and calming music that helps calm the most nervous hearts. 💙The cost and pricing were appropriately managed by Rex's team. ♥️Rex's follow up visit was great and it was very obvious that he was loved by everyone there. 💙Even after Rex came home, Dr.Nanai and her team called frequently to check on Rex! ♥️I have received several emails containing care plan, testing results, and even a summary and detailed plan following his one week check up. YOU CAN TRUST THEM TO HELP YOUR BABY!

Very fast to take my dog back after he got into Xylitol in the form of chewing gum. They were sweet to my dog and he is alive today thanks to them. They also refunded a portion of the money for the estimate. The staff was compassionate and kind when time is of the essence.

My Lily went in with congenital heart failure and they started treatment on her asap. During her time there, they took great care of her. The Drs were always calling and giving me updates on she was responding. It’s obvious they really do care about our fur babies. ♥️

CAUTION READ THE COMMENTS. Wish I had before going. I just looked at the good star ratings and skipped the comments.... The wait time is no lie ! The reason I'm giving a 2 star rating is because they really should update their protocols, lobby, waiting rooms for how much they charge. Yes the place is clean, but shouldn't a " hospital" be clean, so I don't think that's a flex. The staff were "Nice" but they do not give a warning of the wait time. If you're charging 160 just to be seen, they should really warn you before they take your money about the wait. Also let you know if they think your pet is a " Critical" case. If your pet is in Critical condition then this Emergency place is great, but if your pet is not considered critical then just wait for the vet appointment cause their wait time is just as brutal. I went with my cat that I thought had an open wound, and came to find out it wasn't but I waited 3 hours just to hear that. I was with my 2 yr old daughter ( another mistake on my part) who was hungry and sleepy. This is where they need to implement something new. I asked the front desk if I could go home and drop my daughter off, then come back for my cat. They told me I can't leave the premises, because ppl in the past left their pets. Well, I'm not those ppl and don't punish me or my 2 yr old for that. They should have vending machines,... again if you're going to wait all day and not be able to leave. Then the Vet comes in and tells me what's wrong without my cat present? So I'm just getting estimates of what they can do and how much.... I waited another hour for the receptionist to come in and have me sign my choice of procedure.... I waited another 30 minutes for paperwork ( which I never got because at this point it's almost 9pm at night and I wanted to get my daughter home). So in total I was there for 5 1/2 hours, regrettably.

They are way over priced. It was 160 just to walk in the door. They would not allow us to be with our puppy. The doctor initially came in and said that our dog had pneumonia and when asked the treatment, she advised that it would be intense antibiotics, oxygen, and she would need an IV drip. Following that she said, the dog would not make it, and would need to be put down. The doctor then stated that she would like to run x-rays just to ensure she was right at which time we worked out another $400 for two pictures. Dr then came back in and said that the puppy did not have pneumonia and sent us home with a small vile of nose drops and a small bottle of penicillin which was another $165. The doctor did not even bothered to apologize for misdiagnosing my puppy. I will never go back there. I would prefer to drive my puppy out of state is to have to go back there.
