I'm homeless with my dog and people suggested this place. Their "help" was being told there's "not much hope" for my situation, that it would be months before any help would be available, that waiting lists are too long to even try (when I asked to apply to the platform housing), that I'm better off living in my car.... on and on with excuses until closing time. I barely managed to get a gas voucher. Such a large fancy facility, but not much help at all.
From the first time I walked in here I have always been met with friendly faces, a hot cup of coffee and conversation lacking any judgement. If you find yourself in a struggle, this needs to be one of the first places you come to. It truly is a safe harbour.
They really need to change what their website says they give help with. It's another non profit in missoula doing just enough to qualify to continue to cash paychecks for their employees
I went here yesterday for a gas voucher for an interview in Victor for a bartending job. It's about an hour from me, but it's a tipping job, which is needed. Unemployment is gone and the housing program that was covering my rent "for at least a year, possibly 18 months," my case manager told me. I didn't want this rental because I couldn't pay for it without assistance. It also required a year lease. My case manager told me not to worry, I was covered for the length of the lease, and I could find something cheaper later on. 7 months into my lease and the Mera program was suddenly terminated. My case managers never even contacted me with the news. Yesterday, I posted how upset I was over the treatment I received by two workers at this Hope Mission. I called before I drove down and spoke to one of the workers on the phone. I explained about not having my registration because my abusive ex fiance wouldn't give me the title or registration, in order to threaten me. The worker told me that I wouldn't get a voucher without the required paperwork. I asked her what people are supposed to do when they were forced to leave everything behind, to escape an abusive relationship. She stated that "she doesn't make the rules." I asked her of she would please connect me with whomever does make the rules. Ron or Rob, I believe is his name, was kind enough to allow me to just bring my DL and insurance. When I arrived, I was standing behind the sign because the worker was helping someone else. She looked over at me and says, "You can sit. I'll get to you when I can." I felt her tone was dismissive, and she could use some training in appropriate customer service. But I sat. When she was finished helping the other person, she left her desk and want to an office across the room. I could hear 2 females talking, but could only make out a word or two. I had a gut feeling that I was the subject of their conversation. The original worker disappeared and I was approached by the second female who had been talking. She asked me if I brought the required papers for the voucher. No hello, hi, or any attempt to be friendly and professional. I told her that I brought the documents Rob said to bring. She asked me why I had only the state issued paper copy of my license, where was the original, and when did I plan to replace it. I told her I planned to replace it when I had the money for it, which was my honest and direct answer. I didn't understand why all the questions, because it's still a legal document, if she was concerned about it. I have cashed a check with it, and picked up medication. I believe she felt like I was being sarcastic instead of truthful. She told me that I didn't need to come at her like that, and if I was expecting for people to help me, I should be acting alot nicer. I won't lie. At this point I was definitely offended. It almost sounded as if I wasn't displaying the appropriate amount of "humbleness" to receive the gift of her help. I was truly bewildered by both worker's behavior. I spoke to the first worker on the phone, and when I got here, she decided not to help me. Maybe she was offended by me asking to speak with someone above her. This second worker had an attitude right off the bat, before I had even said a word, so I have no idea. The reason for the update is that my earlier review only stated that I was treated disrespectfully by two young female workers when I tried to get a gas voucher. I would have left it as it was, but I received a call from Rob or Ron, saying he was concerned with how I treated members of his team?! I informed him that I was definitely concerned with how members of his team treated me yesterday. Maybe someone saw my review and was attempting to cover their butts? The 3 stars is specifically for Rob,
The wonderful people at 549-hope helped my family to pay our rent after a family emergency left us nearly penniless. We have a family and small children and had received an eviction notice due to not paying. But thanks to this wonderful organization we were able to have some ease of mind once again and know we wouldn't end up homeless. Thank you so much 549-Hope!
Rose is someone who will go above and beyond to help those who need it. She is selfless and kind and shines the light of Jesus everywhere she goes. The light that she shines is not only evident in the work that she does, but also with the team that she’s built within 549 Hope and also to all of the people that she helps and encounters with on a daily basis. Rose is one of a kind and an absolute rockstar!!!
