We adopted Cheeto (formerly Toast) in the end of May 2024, and he is seriously the goodest-good boy! As far as the adoption process goes, it was definitely quite intense compared to adopting through the human society where you can basically walk in and walk out with a cat the same day. It took a week or so for our application to be processed (calling references, our vet, etc.), and actually picking out a cat/kitten was kind of a touch and go process. My daughter fell in love with a kitty, but it took several days to figure out if there were applications before us, and if they wanted that particular kitty, or another kitty. Once they confirmed we could adopt the particular kitty, we had to schedule an appointment on a different day to come back and pick him up, finalize paperwork, etc. All rescues kind of have their own philosophies, some just try and get animals off the street and into a home as fast as possible without making sure it’s going to be a stable home long term, but Animeals definitely takes time to try and make sure that they are adopting to homes that are truly prepared for the commitment and understand what they are getting themselves into. Being scrutinized/judged as a potential adopter isn’t super pleasant (feels invasive honestly), but I get why they do it, and I can appreciate it on that level (once you’ve been around animal rescues/shelters long enough you definitely start to question all of humanity….).

Animeals is such an amazing place to get a cat! The people who work there are so patient and informative and help you with anything you need. They take extremely good care. of their cats. I just adopted a 2 month old kitten he is so easy-going and sweet and has been taken care of very well by the shelter and his foster mom.

I just adopted two precious kittens from Animeals in Missoula. They are sisters!! The adoption process is in depth and detailed, which is absolutely necessary. This shelter makes sure their cats and kittens are placed in loving, forever homes. Thank you!♥️

On August 7th, I adopted two of my favorite people-- well, cats... From Animeals. The shelter was clean and all of the cats seemed to be happy, healthy, and well fed. The staff was also great; when I initially went to adopt a pair of cats that were no longer there, they matched me with a perfect duo that I am so happy to say are a part of the family now. The adoption process was straightforward, and I am so glad that they ask for personal references so that they know the cats are going towards a good home. They also make sure that bonded pairs are never separated, and all of the cats can stay there happily until they find their forever homes. If I were to consider another cat, I would absolutely go back to Animeals.

Wonderful people work here. This is a great place to adopt a kitty and volunteer in your community. They need fosters for kittens, which is a great experience.
