I adopted a cat from them and he is the best boy ever! The prosses was very smooth. The people were nice and really cared about the animals in their care. That means a whole lot to me. A huge thank you to them.

Will be eternally grateful to the place that gave me my first chosen pet Sherbert, and my first adult pet Putter. Even overworked, understaffed, and overfilled the volunteers are truly passionate and work tirelessly to ensure these sweet pets get a great home. They make sure you are set up for success, and have a great foster/foster-to-adopt program. It’s hard to believe this sweet baby spent a year in that shelter, but thanks to them he has two loving parents and a sister now. Please remember that if you plan to adopt that you need to plan for it to be permanent. Even if you move, they scratch the furniture, pee, etc. The only acceptable reasons to surrender an animal is if they truly threaten physical safety of you, kids, or other pets or that you are unable to care for them. Do not declaw them (how would you like all your fingertips being cut down to the knuckle? If you have questions, ask the volunteers. They are knowledgeable and eager to help. Thank you again to the staff for helping us find Putter. Truly thankful and he has a great home.

Grand Strand Humane Society Cruel Treatment !! Last year about 5 months ago my boyfriend and I went to adopt a cat from Grand Strand Humane Society. The main reason for adopting was because we were nervous for another cat we recently received from a neighbor. We didn’t want the cat to be lonely while we worked long hours at our local hospital. We were doing this for the first time!! First time pet owners as well!! Keep that in mind please!! Once we did the adoption papers we were thinking we were in good standing to adopt a cat. The next day I alone came to pick up the cat we wanted. Unfortunately we were denied, that was okay though because we had no previous knowledge about being pet owners. Our cat we just received had no shots. I was educated from the head staff to first have the cat vaccinated so the cat would not get another sick. Then after she also said that we selected preferred declawed. She repeatedly asked “did you declaw your cat.” I then replied, “no not yet we were planning to take him to the vet and ask about it.” She then educated on how it is inhumane to do this. We had absolutely no idea, we just knew this as an option for pet owners when talking to people about adoption. She denied us and gave us no options to fix our mistakes. I then went with a family member today who bought some items for her pets. I asked the front desk staff who was there that last time. This person was not head staff however. I asked about the mistake that happened and if there were any chance to still adopt. Not only was she rude to me in her answer but she was very insensitive and insistent the no one in their organization would approve of us adopting another cat ever. She even said other organizations may not either. She kept trying to go back to looking at her phone instead of talking to me as well. I asked if I could bring a lawyer for how unfair this was because I couldn’t understand how there was no other option. No education courses, no reapplication time frames, nothing! I exclaimed how rude that was, but she didn’t care. The rest of the staffed also stared at my friend and I like bad people as well. PUBLIC EMBARRASSMENT! Grand Strand Humane Society labeled my boyfriend and I as a monster in my opinion for us simply not having the knowledge! How cruel and upsetting especially because we followed exactly what they said to do with the other cat we have. I pray and hope everyone doesn’t have my same level of mistreatment. Other wise they keep a clean and wonderful space for the animals. I do love that they care, but they need to have appropriate options for people. A cat doesn’t deserve to live in a cage and not be adopted by good people just because people may not have the knowledge. A change in policy needs to happen for protection and rights of residents of this area.

Went to GSHS to get nail trimming for my dog Amelia and a friend's puppy. It was busy but managed by staff pretty well. The staff were nice and the wait wasn't extremely long. Since many are walkins like we were... I was glad there was enough seating for everyone...the staff out front did a good job managing & fulfilling the patrons needs. And our pooches enjoyed their new manicure. No discount @ $15 bucks... but proceeds of course, help the shelter. Which IS a WONDERFUL thing! 😍😍😍
