Description We are a no-kill cat shelter run totally by volunteers. We have been open since September 2004. Right now, we are currently doing adoptions appointment only due to Covid-19. Our open house days have been suspended until further notice. Please allow 2 business days for a reply if you contact us. We do our best to respond to all voice mail messages and e-mails.

This no-kill animal shelter is run by a dedicated and compassionate group of volunteers. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful in matching up everyday folks with the perfect feline companion. I 100% support their cause and look forward to giving another cat a forever home.

This shelter is incredible. All of the volunteers are friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxed and personal. Compared to other shelters I've been to its a lot quieter, which results in happier more comfortable cats. They have both cuddly kittens and sweet adult cats who are looking for their forever homes. It's hard to make a choice when you just want to take all of them home!

Stooped in the other day. Place smells clean and is clean. Obviously, it's not an easy job, but they do it. We have adopted 3 cats over the years with no issues. Thank you, SHP, for all the joy you bring to Milwaukee!

We live in the neighborhood and couldn't be more grateful for Second Hand Purrs in our lives. We've expanded our family and adopted on 2 separate occasions (Parker and Trooper). We love everything they do for our furry friends, and we gladly help support them in return when we can.

My hubby and I have adopted two (update *three*) wonderful cats from this shelter. They are dedicated to keeping all their cats and kittens healthy and supported and finding them the right forever homes.

>>> = First OFF KNOW = <<< : I really hate writing any NEGATIVE review. I had faith for this shelter but sadly was VERY disappointed. # 1 The adopted cats legs smelled/stank of his own urine, which I quickly cleaned. # 2 Truth is the cat I adopted was "said" to be fellow cat "friendly". That was NOT the case. It attacked the older resident cat even after a proper gradual introduction. I said whom ever socialized this cat failed. That comment was dismissed quickly and she tried to blame my introduction skills, more than once, not knowing ALL the cats I've owned during the many years. Sadly after bonding w/ this otherwise great cat, I had to return it for THEIR anti social mistake. Then after the original adoption no refund policy fee they had the nerve to charge me and additional $35.00 to return the cat back !!! = When it was returned, I asked "if" I could adopt another cat there and I was refused as she rolled her eyes as "if" now, I no longer qualified, aka like I did something wrong? (???!!!) = LIKE WOW = Two weeks later, in the returned new cats relisting ad, it stated "has to be the only cat". Yes, someone really dropped the ball and YES = I paid for it. I just wonder how many poor good heart others get/got caught up this "return" for even more $$$ game and never write/say a thing and just write it off as Oh well ? SMH = Sadly I'm sure I'm long forgotten by now but boy be sure ALL my funds were quickly taken and never returned for their mistake. >>> = PLEASE JUST BE AWARE !!! THEY WILL LIE TO MOVE A TROUBLED CAT = <<< Both cats in the picture are NOT the shelter cat but proves how social my resident cat was previously. Now after being attacked by their shelter cat it has taken many months to get the fear of ALL cats of my residential cat. SMH !!! AND NO IT HAPPENED UNDER CURRENT STAFF - NICE TRY but YET another lie. 35 dollar return fee? YOU should be ashamed. Its ALL about the $$$ for them. Just got a letter in the mail from them today April 13. 2024 begging for donors to pay their electric BILL? "Give the gift of energy" Energy printed on green paper? Sound familiar ? PURE GREED = THE POOR CATS as Human elitism is just SAD in 2024.
