Description Established in 2021, Almost Home Cat Rescue MKE stands apart from typical volunteer-run rescues in the Milwaukee area. As a cage-free, free-roam facility, we encourage visitors to interact with our adoptable cats before taking them home. Our mission is twofold: to provide a nurturing haven for every feline in our care until they find their forever families, and to serve as a valuable community resource for cats and the people who love them.

A year before adopting Jax in 2021, (orange tabby), my partner and I adopted Jemma (short-haired gray tabby) from a different rescue. We weren’t given much information on Jemma and had to find out much of her medical history through vet appointments. This was not the case with Jax. We visited Almost Home one month before meeting Jax (formerly Ramsey) looking for a short-haired kitten to keep Jemma company. After getting to know us, Lainie, our representative from Almost Home listened to what we were looking for, took the time to answer all of our questions, and explained each kitten’s personality, quirks, and needs. We ultimately decided to take some time to think about which kitten would fit best in our family. Later that night, Lainie called me and said “we just rescued a full-grown, long haired male cat and I know that is not what you were looking for but based on meeting you today, I think you would be interested in meeting this cat and getting to know him.” We trusted her expertise and quickly drove over to visit Jax. The rest of the details became history. We are so grateful to Almost Home for bringing us the sweetest, most friendly slice of home. Our family would not be the same without Jax. In the short amount of time between rescuing Jax and adopting Jax, Lainie and Almost Home did an impeccable job with giving us everything we needed to know about Jax to properly care for him and integrate him with Jemma. They made the adoption process extremely straight forward. They made sure all his medical needs were met, pre-adoption. They also shared with us his comprehensive medical file, microchip information, and personal history with separation anxiety so that we wouldn’t be blindsided to his behavioral traits. They kindly explained to us the process of returning Jax to Almost Home if things would not work out with Jemma. The staff/volunteers at Almost Home dedicate so much of their time to make sure that the cats there have the best quality of life pre-adoption through post-adoption. I fully recommend Almost Home Cat Rescue MKE for anyone interested in becoming a cat parent or for anyone who is looking to add another furball into their family!

We started fostering these babies in December, and within a month fell in love! We ended up adopting them officially. Almost home Cat Rescue MKE was so helpful with the whole process. They provided all the resources, medical necessities, and we always felt prepared. They have a whole team for volunteer staff who are there to help. Couldn’t be more happier with the support and experience.

Amazing staff! So compassionate and caring about their kitties! We adopted a pair, Drake and Adele! They are beautiful, sweet babies! Gave us a care package for them as well! Favorite toys, treats and their favorite bed! So loving and so sincere place!! 🐾❤️🐾

We loved adopting from almost home cat rescue! We met our two guys, mowgli & Ricky, during open visit hours and just fell in love. Everyone in the organization was so helpful and kind towards us, and took time to answer our questions. The inside of the center is amazing as well! Clean, organized, and so many comfy spots for the cats. We appreciate everything they did for us and our new kittys!💛🐱
