Description The Pennsylvania SPCA Lancaster Center is dedicated to making the lives of animals (and their people) throughout the county better. Our Lancaster Center is the only municipal facility in the city and accepts strays and lost animals from across the county, working diligently to return them to their rightful homes. We are proud to reunite families. The Pennsylvania SPCA operates under a no-kill philosophy, working toward finding "furever" homes for all animals entering our care.

I adopted a German Shepherd mix named Marty from them in Feb 2024. The staff were very nice and very helpful. One took Marty and I to a fenced-in enclosure outside. He told me all about Marty and asked if I had any questions. Then we went back inside. I filled out an adoption contract and paid for him. They gave me his paperwork and a stuffed lamb which is still his favorite toy. The thing I liked best is that they don't make you jump through hoops like some shelters do. You show up and look at one or more dogs. If you like one you can adopt him that day. I am very happy with the Lancaster SPCA and with Marty.

This review is for the vaccine clinic only as I cannot speak on their other services. It was a frustrating experience to get my kitten's vaccines done in the Lancaster location as the staff did not seem reliable. I have scheduled 3 different appointments all to which were seemingly "canceled" when I arrived to the office. I never received any phone call nor contact from the office and only found out that they were canceled after arriving with my kitten. After my cat received her vaccination from the Lancaster office she needed to come back for a time sensitive "booster shot" in 2-3 weeks. Once again, I show up to the office for her scheduled appointment and there's a sign on the door stating "the vaccine clinic is closed." This made me very frustrated with this place as I do not like putting stress on my cat and being in the carrier makes her sick. I have tried to call multiple times to try and find a time to reschedule but no one answers the phone. I have a life, I take time out of my day leaving work early to be at the appointment on time just to show up and have the appointment rescheduled due to the vet being "out of the office". I am not giving this place another chance to provide care for my pet.

The staff here is wonderful. We adopted Pebblez last week after losing our Boxer of 9yrs. We found each other by luck and couldn't be happier. Thank you to the Lancaster SPCA, our hearts are full💕

Absolutely useless shelter and staff. We found a dog wandering the road while traveling through the area and the shelter refused to take the dog. And then threatened to call the cops on us while we were trying to figure out where we could surrender the dog.

We found a lovely dog there a few weeks ago, brought him home, made an appt. at our vet, find out he has giardia....worms. Mostly found in kennels where fecal matter gets into the water. Currently on meds to hopefully, in 1 round of meds, eliminate them. We spent over $300 to adopt him, filled out all your paperwork, abided by all that is requested from us, yet a simple test was not done. I would have paid $350 to adopt him if the test was done and you started him on meds so he wouldn't have suffered...and how long did he suffer? We suggest that this be done on ALL CATS AND DOGS currently in the facility and treat them if they have giardia. If you are going to adopt a pet, ask if they have been tested and if you already adopted a pet, take them to a vet for that test. Read what giardia does to humans and animals, it is not pleasant. I guess I expected better from the SPCA and we are saddened that our dog was left to suffer with worms. The SPCA in their reply states it is a common occurence...then why not test for it? Also, we DID call, message never returned.

i got both of my cats spayed, microchipped and they got their shots for less than my vet’s office charges for just one cat to be spayed. they are very kind and kept me updated when possible because they knew how bad my anxiety was. i definitely recommend them.
