As my husband and I were walking down King Street in Lancaster today, my husband suddenly noticed a groundhog wedged under a railing at the top of a stairwell. There was a bowl of water sitting there and it was obvious that others had also noticed it. We contacted our daughter who is a neighbor of Betsy at Acorn Acres. Julia got in touch with Betsy and she and her team were there in less than 15 minutes! They were able to rescue the ground hog quickly and I hear he appears to be in good health. They are giving him a quiet space for now and I know they will take good care of him! Thank you Betsy and team for your help!! I felt terrible for the little guy and I’m so happy that he’s now safe and sound!
Attended a youth educational event for Acorn Acres hosted by the Ephrata Public Library. There were so many people in attendance, and the 2hr presentation was entertaining and educational. The presenter was knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging. We left with a wealth of info, and my kids LOVED getting to see (not touch) these beautiful animals up close. Thank you so much for putting on these educational events, the time invested in caring for these sweet animals, and educating the public at large in an interactive way!
Acorn Acres is phenomenal… my mom saw a suffering groundhog in the city, sitting in the sun and not budging. I got in touch with Acorn Acres and they were there on the scene within MINUTES! They got the little guy into their care immediately, no questions asked. Incredible organization!
This evening my son found a trapped baby bunny in our neighbors window well. We were able to get it out, but it wasn’t hopping out of the box we placed it in-I called Acorn Acres thanks to a friends recommendation. Unfortunately it was after hours, fortunately there was an option for emergencies and I was able to get through and talk to Betsy. She was able to give me clear instructions of what we should do so that the bunny would have a better chance at surviving. Long story short the bunny had an adverse reaction to what we did, so I called Betsy back and made plans with her to bring the bunny to her rehab. I am so thankful for Betsy and her love for helping animals. She told me what to expect and how I can follow up with the bunny’s progress (hopefully). Betsy is very knowledgeable and passionate about animals and I admire her doing what she does. I felt a huge relief leaving her with the bunny this evening because I know it is in loving hands. Thank you Betsy!
I started volunteering at Acorn Acres a few weeks ago. I honestly think people are sleeping on this opportunity. I get to feed baby animals... for free! It might be the best thing ever. In addition to being able to take care of the babies (animals, not humans) I have been throughly impressed at the high standards Betsy has for the rehab. It is incredibly clean, the animals get fed such a high quality diet, and it's been such a great environment to learn and volunteer in. I've learned so much about how to take care of these sweet babies over the last few weeks, and also about how much goes into running a rehab facility. I honestly don't know how Betsy does all that she does. I think she might have a secret clone somewhere. 🤔 If you're looking for a place to volunteer I highly recommend Acorn Acres, and if you happen to find an animal that needs some help they'll be very well taken care of here.
