We just completed a foster to adopt for a large 3 yo (history is a mystery) dog, and the staff were amazing every step of the way. The people who work in the kennels, front office and the officers really care about the safety and wellness of their dogs and it shows in how they interact with the dogs and us too. They took care with our requested match, and were prompt with responding to us on email when we had questions. I really appreciated their honesty and kindness and we never felt pressured to adopt. The paperwork and documentation really reflect how seriously they take the adoption. They did such a great job with this stray dog, that we knew on day 6 that we were all in! We had considered international rescue adoption, but are so very glad to have taken this route to our sweet dude instead. Our respect and admiration for the work of you all at CoV Animal Services. Added edit: I just read the other reviews and found it funny but telling that we are impressed by the paperwork!

It's been 2 months exactly now that we got our Hannah- all thanks to the lovely team at Vancouver Animal Services for making it so easy and streamlined! A special thanks to Tracy and Jocelyn, and as well as to Jeanette for fostering, loving and caring for our baby so well! From the first time you interact with the team, you can feel their compassion towards the animals that they don't just want to look after or rehome because it's their job, but because they care for them and want to give them the best life possible. I was very touched how they kept Hannah literally next to them so someone was always looking after her for she was so tiny. The paperwork was equally smooth and easy with clear instructions. They were in no hurry and took their time to assess the applications. The meet and greet was informative and they were all very patient with our questions. I was absolutely impressed when they asked us to wash our hands and be careful about not placing her on floor etc- they CARE (Thank YOU! :) ).They didn't mind taking care of her until they believed she was ready to go home. The day we picked up Hannah, we could palpate the love that EACH & EVERY member of the team has for the little family of animals they have at the facility. Not to miss the cleanliness and timely looking after by the medical team! The adoption fees is nominal and covers spaying. I can go on and on but honestly, every other day at bedtime, Hannah and I thank these kind people who saved her life and showered her with love. Thank you all for what you do, for maintaining the place so well and for making it all so easy for us and everyone! Hannah says a hello and sends you hugs and cuddles!

The staff here are absolutely incredible. The amount of love and care that is literally showered on all of the dogs is simply heartwarming. Like all shelters, it has been an incredibly tough year, but they have never stopped giving unconditional love to every animal that comes through their door, and managing some tough situations with compassion, care and never ending smiles. They spend quality time with all of the dogs, and show them the care they have been missing in their lives. They need to be applauded for the incredibly hard job that they have, and the biggest hearts, which shower the animals with affection.

These folks are the best. I fostered Samson for them in Summer of 2022 and they were so incredibly supportive of me as a foster. It was so evident that Samson was loved by all the staff and they were working really hard for all the dogs in their care. Definitely a fantastic crew who have the dog's best interests at heart. I ended up adopting Samson (now Strider) and they continue to follow our progress and have stayed in touch. Tracy and Rachel have been beyond fantastic and I know they would be there for both me and Strider if we were to ever need anything. Fantastic shelter staff working so hard for the pups in their care.

About a month ago, we found and took care of a lost dog while we tried to find its owners. When we called the Vancouver Animal Shelter to see if anyone was looking for this dog, they told us that we had to hand the dog over to them and they would try to find the owners, and if not, put the dog for adoption. A worker gave us their card to follow up on the dog, and see how he was doing, and potentially adopt him (which we really wanted to). After giving him to the shelter, we tried multiple times to schedule visits and we kept being redirected to multiple people and nobody tried to accommodate this. When we saw he was being put up for adoption (with no notice from anyone who told us they would keep us in the loop), we submitted our application and heard nothing for weeks, despite trying to follow up. When we eventually opened a case with the city to inquire about the dog, only then were informed he was about to move into his new home. We are happy he has found a happy home, however we are never able to see him again after handing him over to the shelter. If you are going to turn a dog over to this shelter be careful because you might never see them again, and nobody, despite what they say, will make any attempt to help you reconnect with them or with the adoption process. We were left in the dark for weeks, wondering if our application was received, why nobody was responding, and if he was well when we were the ones who found him, took care of him, and willingfully turned him over to the shelter. I’m not saying this shelter is a bad place, but there needs to be a reform in the way they handle cases. Pets, adoption, and surrendering animals is an emotional process and having such a lack of communication can be devastating.
