My son’s best friend is a pug named Luke. Luke is just over a year old and full of energy and life. On a Thursday Luke started showing signs of being sick. We started him on a bland diet thinking his upset stomach would settle. Friday morning he ate his breakfast and seemed to be feeling a little better. Saturday afternoon, he took a turn and we knew something was wrong and it was life or death. Our vet was closed and so we went to Blue Pearl. Luke had swallowed not one but two pieces of a giant (hard as a rock or so we thought) tennis ball. They did a few X-rays and discussed three or four different options. One piece was in his stomach and the other was nearing the lower intestines. We had him put under and with a scope the doctor successfully pulled the piece of the ball out from his stomach and even sent us a photo of the object. We kept Luke home until Monday when our regular vet was open and we repeated the X-rays where we saw that the second object had moved but was never going to pass on its own. Our regular vet was able to successfully remove the tennis ball and two weeks later Luke is fully recovered. Despite having a wicked scar on his belly you’d never even know he was sick a few weeks ago. We are grateful that Blue Pearl was available and provided us all the information needed to make the best decision for Luke at the time.
My dog Berns had a seizure Saturday night at 8pm and had another minutes later in the car on the way to bluepearl leaving him unconscious. .when we arrived he was taken in and seen immediately ...over the next few hours we did blood work and waited...this is my complaint...Berns did not wake up right away, which is not uncommon after major seizures, and my vet, a younger guy said it wouldn't be out of line to consider euthanasia ..he maybe didn't read me very well ..in my mind this is way to early to even suggest that ...I pray he hasn't made this suggestion to others who my have taken this advice...it's a decision not to be taken lightly...I am an old guy who has been through this more than a few times...a few hours after this suggestion Berns was up and by 11AM he was peeing on a bush after walking out of your front door...that being said thank you to the ladies who carried him in and all who cared for him during his time there ...good to have a place like yours so close when things get serious
My Red Heeler became ill during the weekend. I am always grateful that we have a great place like Blue Pearl in this area for emergency care. The staff are very kind and professional. They also have great specialty vets on staff which I have had the pleasure to meet for my Golden Retriever's hip dysplasia and genetic heart issue.
The staff is absolutely wonderful. I had to have my sweet baby, my basset hound named Miss Kitty, put down yesterday. We had stopped for an emergency visit due to my dogs health going down hill so fast. They discovered a tumor. My sweet girl had cancer. They were all so so sweet to me my partner and especially my pup. I could tell almost everyone i spoke to that day were holding back tears. Everyone was so professional yet also made us feel like family and that our girl was just as important to them as she was to us. To anyone we were in contact that day, will all of our hearts, we thank you. You gave our girl a loving and peaceful ending, and helped us thru the process. Yall are absolutely lovely souls, thank you for everything
I would recommend BluePearl of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Lola just turned 2 on April 1, 2024 118Lb German Shepherd. Six months ago she was diagnosed with Pyometra. She only had a 50% chance of survival. They did amazing job but this time she was shot in the neck by 9 mm. once I got her in the car we rushed to BluePearl. She had lost a lot of blood at this point., the staff was amazing and they absolutely saved her life once again. I have high respect for everybody from the receptionist, Veterinarian Technician, Veterinarians to the amazing ACVS Surgeon. She was honest and upfront with what the outcome could have been. Take a look at a picture a day after surgery and 1 week after surgery. Her neck was completely cut open so they could scrub the area. The bullet entered through the back of her neck and out the front throat area. That severed the two main veins in a neck.
We had a very sick Old English Sheepdog that had to be hospitalized 8 days. All the vets and vet techs were kind and caring. They gave us the facts daily with a phone call and also met with us in person daily. We never felt rushed and they answered all our questions. They saved our girl when we thought there was no hope. Thank you Blue Pearl from the bottom of our hearts!
