I called about a kitten looking for a home that I saw on KCRG Everyday News on Thursday, 09/12. I told the lady from Saints that I lived in Northern Iowa. She said it is her rule to not adopt animals to someone who lives that far away from Cedar Rapids because she likes to deliver them and doesn't want to drive that far. I live two and a half hours away. After I got off the phone I emailed her that I would gladly drive to Cedar Rapids to meet the kitten with the intention of adopting. I didn't expect her to have to bring the kitten to me. I told her I had references if that would help. I lived in Cedar Rapids for twenty some years. I have not heard back. The lady at the rescue seemed more interested in her rule than finding a home for the kitten. I was so disappointed that I thought I had found a kitten that I was instantly drawn to. I know there are shelters closer to me and I have been looking. I lost my 16 year old cat three weeks ago and just felt a connection to this one only to be told I lived too far away. I would think the most important rule would be to find a home for the kitten. To turn someone away because they live too far away doesn't make sense to me. How sad. I would still love to come meet the kitten if Saints Rescue could bend their "rule" a little and put their objective first.
I called saints yesterday to ask if they’d take my cats because one was having a medical emergency that I could not afford to take to the vet and I was trying to do the right thing by finding somewhere for them to go instead of just letting the issue persist and lead to death. The lady who answered the phone was EXTREMELY rude. She was snotty and sarcastic to me. I asked if they’d take them and she replied with “we don’t take any surrenders that weren’t adopted from us” and then said “ok do you know of any other places that can help?” And she replied with “I’m sure you can find someone to take them right now” in a very sarcastic and rude tone then hung up on me. I called back numerous times and she denied every single call sending me to voicemail so I left a voicemail and she called me back and when I told her I wanted to speak to a manager she replied with “were all volunteers there is no manager” so I continued to ask her my original question of if she knew of any places that could help me and she replied with “you’d have to call each one.” I completely understand and take accountability that I am responsible for the medical emergency that my cat was in but when someone is in a position where they can’t afford vet care and asks a shelter if they can help or know of any other places that give assistance I’d expect an actual heartfelt real answer instead of what I received from that woman. I am disgusted at her phone etiquette when someone was in need. I can only imagine how she treats other employees and the cats that are in that shelter. Absolutely disgraceful. I hope she realizes that she is not for volunteer work and moves on, if she even is a volunteer. Based on this interaction I would not recommend this place for anyone.
~ Make sure to make an appointment online! ~ Love that each room has a photo and detailed info on each kitty! Looking for a specific temperament to fit your lifestyle? Ask the staff and volunteers! They know the cats so well! I am a volunteer at the Annex location in Solon, and I've connected friends to the organization for their kitty adoptions, and they have had a great experience! There are more cats at the Solon location listed on pet finder! Check there, too!
The staff is so sweet and the kitties are even sweeter 💕 look at this lil fur babies ~ they’re so well taken care of and the staff cares so deeply for all of them
I am a volunteer here, which means I get to visit weekly. The cats are great, but we are usually extremely packed with them, meaning we can't accept every cat that comes our way. The place recently got a remodel, so it's much snazier than the last time you went!
I dropped off some donations today that my cat did not use. This shelter took the toys and bed I had brought with a warm welcome! I am so happy that they accepted these items and now cats in need can use them! :-)
