Called here a few days ago to get advice on how to trap an intact, seriously malnourished, sickly and visibly injured male cat who is afraid of my wheelchair and who I cannot physically gather up due to the related disability. The woman on the phone was EXTREMELY rude, ableist, and implied I was making excuses and just wasting her time. Not only do they clearly not care about animals here, but they are completely devoid of basic empathy. I consider it a blessing that she, and the other comments here, revealed the true nature of the staff at Bonnie Hays before I entrusted them with this sweet boy.

My wife and I have been caring for a stray cat we affectionately named "Goopy" for the past 10 months. He had a slight limp and an eye infection, which made us worry about his well-being. Despite being shy and scared of people, he would come to our home every few nights for food. We even bought him an outdoor heated house to keep him warm on cold nights and made sure he had food every day. Recently, we decided it was time to get him some medical treatment, as his limp and eye infection were getting worse. We were hesitant to catch him because we didn't want him to be put to sleep; we just wanted him to get the care he needed. After many calls, we found Dove Lewis, who assured us multiple times that they do NOT kill animals and would find a place to get him adopted. With those assurances, we managed to trap Goopy and take him to Dove Lewis. The following day, we were told he was recovering well and that his paw injury and eye infection were minor. They said he would be sent to Bonnie Hays, a supposed no-kill shelter, to be adopted. We were given an ID number and told we could follow up. About 12 days later, I called to check on Goopy, only to be told that they had "made a very difficult decision" to put him down because he was not friendly and deemed un-adoptable. We were heartbroken and devastated. Dove Lewis had reassured us that if an animal was not adoptable, most counties would drop the animal off at the cross streets where they were found. This did not happen. Goopy was not terminally ill or severely injured, yet Bonnie Hays decided to end his life because he wasn't adoptable. My wife and I are absolutely torn apart by this. Despite being reassured by both Dove Lewis and Bonnie Hays that Goopy wouldn't be put down, they went ahead and did it. We wanted to share our experience to warn others to be wary of taking an animal to these places.

Had a great experience adopting my previous cat here 20 years ago--unsure why they've stopped adoptions. Was also told a while ago they would just euthanize an injured cat if it was brought in. I know it's hard to keep room in shelters, but isn't helping with adoption one of the main ways to get animals out?

Terrible customer service. I called in because I found a stray cat that was injured and asked if they could take care of it or do something about it. Cause I can't have animals at my place. The person who answered said that they don't take cats or any animals. They didn't even give me a solution or Another place to take the cat to and said that I should take care of it. I have no idea if you can still adopt animals at this place. But if you find a stray animal, I would not call this place for help.

I'm only reviewing Bonnie Hays's Licensing program. I own 2 dogs & both for new dog enrollment and license renewal, the process is very straight forward and, if anything, a bit too trusting - that they don't require you to upload proof of Rabies vaccination or sterilization. They send the license tags in the mail a few days later, and they remind you when its time to renew your license. I do have 2 suggestions to improve service: 1) Similar to a lost child program, I'd love it if Bonnie Hays allowed you to upload pictures of your dogs & cats as well as enroll cats on their site, not just dogs. My cats are microchipped, and although they're indoor only, if they ever ended up at Bonnie for some reason, it would be a lot easier to reunite us if they had our cats already in their system. 2) A lot of the negative reviews of Bonnie are people that do not understand what a state(?) or county run animal shelter can and cannot do, that housing & feeding stray animals costs money & what is or is not an animal abuse case that would allow them to enter people's private property to remove animals. I think adding to their FAQ on their website might help some.

I adopted my cat Chester at this shelter and I could not have been more pleased with the volunteers in the cat kennel area and the shelter staff. The volunteers were great at helping me find the cat I was looking for and were forthcoming about the pros and cons of the personalities of each cat. When I decided on which kitty I wanted to take home, the staff members were very thorough in going through his medical records with me and explained any sort of ongoing care that was needed. I loved that a free vet visit was included in his adoption fee. It's obvious that they had spent time getting to know him and his needs. I am happy to report that my Chester is happy, healthy, and loving his new home. And I couldn't be happier to have gone to this shelter that day. It was a great experience!
