The Crew at Avenue Veterinarian Hospital are by far the best Vet Office in Mt. Juliet. Compassionate to the tenth power. They’ve helped multiple of our feral cats turned domestic. They do checkup calls afterward which is amazing. They’re busy for a reason. No question all our pets go to this gem in our sweet town. Love you all.
Forget the fact that I think their spay and neuters look like butcher-job. Forget the fact that their prices feel drastically higher than other clinics. How about the fact that it appears they don't even do the actual medical work as they claim they do? Today I had to put down my kitten who was spayed here just yesterday. When they released her to me, she was very lethargic, and barely could breathe. Bringing her back in today, it turns out she had a collapsed lung likely due to pneumonia, and likely infection relating to kidney issues. As far as I'm aware, no apparent tests were run that would check for any of this beforehand. Additionally, on discharge, the checkup form they gave me indicated that they had checked her respiratory abilities and found no issue. It appears that they did not check for this on release though, as I suspect they would have noticed something was wrong. Unfortunately as a non-trained professional, it was just assumed to be the reaction from the anesthesia. The kitten's condition and breathing was in the same state from the moment I picked her up to the moment she was put down. To make this more frustrating, the clinic also couldn't keep her there to attempt to save her over the weekend, as they didn't have weekend staff. Instead they recommended to pass her off to an ER location that would cost $3000 a day for a chance of her to make a recovery. In the end the hard decision was made to end her suffering, despite her short life lived. Of course there's really nothing the public can do, as the wonderful animal medical system often feels like a massive hustle for the consumer and leaves you with no legs to stand on. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone. I believe there are much better, and cheaper, options in town.
The most kindest, empathetic, patient and down to earth group of people I’ve ever met at a vet clinic. If I were still a vet tech, this is the ideal clinic. I would’ve loved to worked at. Dr. Erkman is a very knowledgeable and a thorough veterinarian. I would trust any of my animals with her! Her people skills are outstanding and they way she speaks to you is very respectful, rather than at you. HUGE shout out to the techs also! The way they handled my sick baby girl with such love and gentle care was superior! Taylor at the front has the greatest and most understanding voice, a true comfort and vital asset. She has the friendliest smile and helps out you at ease immediately. From the bottom of my heart, thank you AAH
I want to thank the entire staff of Avenue Animal Hospital for their sensitive and very caring care of my dog Bella (formerly LaFonda). I can’t thank you enough for working with her to achieve her care. Although she continues to be over responsive your perseverance to provide care gives me great confidence in all you do. Your Techs are excellent and are much appreciated. Thanks, Dennis Cole
Dr. Harris and staff treat my frenchies as their own and literally saved my beloved female's life. The skill and caring the provide is second to none! I could not be more grateful!
EDIT: I was contacted by the practice manager *Linda. (I mistakenly listed her name as "Nicole" in my original review. Years ago when the issue happened, Dr. Harris whose first name is Nicole was originally going to talk with me regarding the issue. We kept missing each others' calls so Linda and I spoke instead. My mistake!). She let me know that my concerns regarding lapses in refill communications were addressed internally and the specific vets I mentioned in my review are no longer with the practice. I stand by my concerns regarding the Apoquel dosage. ORIGINAL: I was never pleased with the care my dogs received here or how some of their staff interacted with us. I mistakenly assumed it would be hard to find another that would treat my dog’s tracheal collapse with the meds he needed: hydrocodone cough syrup (a controlled substance) and apoquel. A recent relocation forced me to start looking for a new vet and I wish I had done that years ago. My new vet advised my dog has been on too low of a dose of apoquel from Avenue to be effective for his weight. For YEARS, We had been paying about $130 per month for apoquel at Avenue that wasn’t the right dosage. He still sneezed mucus all over the place but I assumed he was getting good care. I hope he finally gets relief from his tracheal collapse that is complicated by allergies now that he’s being appropriately treated at his new vet. In my search for a new vet, I asked Avenue for my dogs’ records so I could see who could continue his care. One of their vets had made passive aggressive comments about me personally in the records. A 2nd vet made comments about my finances. No mention of front desk staff Margie’s lack of follow through, lying, etc that caused many issues. On multiple occasions related to refills, Margie said she would take care of it yet when I arrived to pick it up after the time frame she provided, she would act like our phone conversations never occurred. She would relay to the vet I just showed up asking for a controlled substance. I was yelled at by one of their vets during one interaction because of Margie’s error. I would attempt to show them our call logs but they would brush me off. I tried to contact their practice manager Nicole to see if I could submit these requests in writing so Margie couldn’t continue this behavior. I was once again brushed off. Also I never received an apology for the delay in my dogs’ meds or how I was treated. Victoria and Taylor are excellent! Always helpful and timely! And if any snafus ever occurred (we’re all human here!), they fixed it instead of acting like it didn’t happen. However I have to give only 1 star for how disappointed I am in learning my dog’s care was subpar coupled with Margie’s issues that were ongoing and never addressed.
