My husband and I adopted a kitten on 7/3. I called 7/17 because he developed lesions that strongly resembled ringworm and was basically told it’s not their problem. I explained I am in the vet med industry (for 6 years) and he had to have obtained it from his time at the shelter as they’re appearing now after the average incubation period of 10-14 days and still got shrugged off. I was told “after they leave the shelter, they’re your responsibility”. Obviously, I understand that but not a condition he clearly picked up from his time in the shelter and something that costs hundreds of dollars in testing and medications. Now I have an isolated kitten and we’re BOTH INFECTED with ringworm and the shelter couldn’t care less.

I participated in the adoption fair. I found my new furbaby. She is the third shelter dog I've adopted. The other two had long lives with me, and we're adult dogs when I got them. Older doggies and kitties need homes too! Alachua shelter is great.

These people are incredible. I would like to thank Investigator Carter for rescuing my dog after he had escaped from my backyard during a thunderstorm. Although he is geriatric, he is very aggressive towards strangers. In the pouring rain, she retrieved my heart dog from under a car on the side of the highway. There are not enough words to express my gratitude. Kudos to such a professional team. You have my utmost respect and support. Thank you for all that you do.

The people at this facility are simply awesome. Incredibly busy, facing problems the often can't solve every day where people's emotions are high and animals lives hang in the balance. Yet our experience there was filled with compassion and kindness. Kudos to you guys for your incredible demeanor and commitment to helping both the people and pets in Alachua County.

My fiancé brought our cat we are fostering in today with an appointment to get fixed. Upon arrival, the gate was closed and they offered no help. After finally getting someone to come open the gate, she was belittled and told that she should know better than to transport a cat without carrier. The cat was waddled in a sentimental blanket. My fiancé called the animal shelter before leaving the house and made sure it would be OK to pick him up today AND told them when she would be there. Upon arrival, the gate was closed and they made her turnaround and go home because they said they had no time for her to sign papers and pick up the cat. That is fine, but there is no reason to tell her to come If you were not going to allow her to pick up the cat. So as anyone would my fiancé showed frustration through the phone call and then was threatened to not be able to adopt the cat anymore after fostering him for multiple months. My fiancé then asked about her blanket as it holds sentimental value and they threatened not to allow us to adopt anymore and they said they would not be able to help with that. Very unprofessional by a single seeming to be miserable lady she was dealing with all day. I will also be filing a complaint with the county upon retrieval of this woman’s first name.

While visiting the area from out of state I rescued a kitty from up in a truck engine. It’s ear had been badly burned by the heat of the engine. The next morning I took it to Alachua County Animal Services. A very gruff uncaring unhelpful woman said the kitty was found out of their district. I would have to take it to the neighboring county an hour away. I was sleep deprived and emotional so I didn’t check but upon returning home I discovered she lied. The kitty came from only a few miles from the shelter.
