Description Otero County Animal Shelter is a not for profit municipal animal control facility. Although euthanasia is required in certain situations, we strive to care for and rehome all adoptable animals that pass through our facility. We offer assistance in many areas of pet ownership. If you need assistance please call our facility and we will try our best to help you resolve any issues you may have. Our facility covers all the areas outside Alamogordo City limits and Village of Tularosa (there are shelters for those areas) but within Otero County. We do assist other areas as space allows.
Got Henry (formerly Bill) a few weeks ago. The staff and volunteers were extremely helpful and patient. My wife wasn't able to be there with me so they gave me plenty of time with him in their play area so that I could call and send her pictures while we decided what to do. He absolutely adored the staff there, completely ignoring me whenever they came outside. Even gave me some treats to give him while we were talking. We're both so happy with our little bundle of joy!
I went there this morning to bring home a companion for my dog Skye. Staff was exceedingly patient with me. They gave Skye and Lucy (that's what I named her) plenty of time and space to hang out and get to know each other. Lucy's the gorgeous white dog. Wonderful experience
The people that work and volunteer in this shelter are top-notch we are lucky to have them in otero county You need to do everything you can to support them
We adopted “rocky” but he goes by zephyr now. We adopted him a few months back and he is the sweetest dog anyone could ask for! Would recommend adopting from them. They want to help the animals and actually care about them finding a good home. They were very friendly! Thank you for helping us find this sweet boy.
The best shelter I visited. The staff is great! Friendly and helpful. We adopted our puppy from here, and I plan to adopt from this shelter again.
I adopted a 4-5 week old puppy. She was on a 3 day hold so couldn't pick her up then. 3 days later I picked her up and she was in worse condition when I picked her up. Covered in poop and ticks. They obviously don't bathe them when they come in. From removing the ticks and a good bath she is doing better after a trip to a real vet.
