Description PLEASE NOTE: We are doing business by appointment only. Thank you for your understanding!! The City of Chico owns and operates the animal shelter located at 2579 Fair St., Chico. The Chico Animal Shelter is a section of the Chico Police Department. As part of Animal Services, the shelter takes in stray and surrendered dogs, and sick and injured cats from within the incorporated portions of the City of Chico. The City of Chico also has dogs as well as cats available for adoption at the shelter. Volunteers are welcome. All donations to the Chico Animal Shelter go toward medical care for sheltered animals. PLEASE NOTE: The Butte Humane Society, who shared our facility up until 2021, has now moved to their new facility on Garner Ln. in Chico.
While I appreciate what they do, the staff are very off-putting. I do not need a stranger trying to tell me what characteristics I need in a dog, or what I am seeing in the dog is incorrect. I am 0 for 3 in trying to work with them. The dogs I have seen all seem to have above the expected anxiety and do not associate with non staff people. The dogs at Butte Humane are much more lively and interactive, I will stick with them.
This location's staff recklessly disregards the level of trauma they cause to birth the lost pets AND the family/loved ones of the lost or quarantined pets it holds. Their sole concern being their personal profits, rather than the health and well being of the animals incarcerated there. My personal experience recently has caused myself, my Lil' Bear and a large portion of the community such distress and apparent trauma I'd like to merely suggest the staff re group and find employees who are in the business of actually caring for animals and the community of which they reside in.
What wonderful people and staff!. When my co-pilot and best friend Flash died on a Sunday afternoon they were there at my time of need. They were there for me when the Butte humane society dropped the ball. I was able to bring my loving friend to them so they could handle the cremation for me. I was only charged $128 which was a blessing during my time of grief and The cremation was handled beautifully and I have a beautiful box with a place for a photograph of him on the front thank you so much. Now I have also applied to be a foster parent. And I quickly became an adoptive parent with my first foster child. This is the beautiful Sequoia my new friend and canyon hiking buddy. We bonded quickly and becoming the best of friends. She's wonderful about people and other dogs. She's enjoying her new life outside of the shelter enjoying our daily hikes into the canyon. Interacting with residents of my apartment complex. Writing in our little red sports car with the top down and bringing smiles to everybody that sees her.
Wasn't overly fond of the fees but it sure was nice to get the dog back safe and sound! Thanks much for all you guys do and keep up the great work!!!
I took my old boy, my best friend for his final day. He couldn't walk at the end and they helped carry him in. The price of the procedure was fair and the staff were so kind. I miss him but he was hurting every day, now he's not. I'll go back and adopt from them.
I couldn't of ask for any better service and compassion from this organization. Lori was a Saint helping me. All employees top notch. I highly recommend this organization for your needs. The city of Chico is blessed to have them. 10 star for you and all you do.
