We drove in from Iowa City to have my elderly dog's front leg checked. Our vet discovered a lypoma tucked under the shoulder and leg area and was concerned there may be nerve entanglement issues. The specialist and 4th year student, Abby (sic), were wonderful. Leah is also blind and her experience from the time we entered was less stressful than expected. She needed less reassurance, and our trip home was peaceful. Good news, she is healthy and happy; the lypoma is slow growing, and there is no entanglement.
I could write a book. All I will say is that if you have a dog with an ongoing illness- this is NOT where to take them. I understand this is a teaching hospital but having to repeat yourself to different students and vets each time you come in is exhausting. They clearly had not collaborated with each other or communicated with each other on my pups condition. She seemingly was a new patient to them every time we came in. I would think that having a consistent doctor would be more important and not multiple doctors who don't know why your dog is there in the first place. I literally got told by a doctor that they didn't know the previous had already put my dog on steroids.
Completely satisfied and happy for the center and their staff. My Brutus was very well taken care of and the rehab center really supported my requests and trained me to continue his strength training.
I wasn’t going to post but just got a letter from them that put me over the edge. Literally the worst experience. They took my dog as soon as I walked in not even knowing what was going on. Talked to the student to tell her what was going on (while my dog was elsewhere) then told me she’d be back in a minute or two. She came back with the doctor an hour and a half later. The doctor and student were both very nice but were very bad at explaining things in a way someone could understand if they didn’t have a medical degree. I wasn’t given a rough estimate on how much it would cost to be there until 5 minutes before I was walking out. To say I had sticker shock is an understatement. On my way out the receptionist told me “have a great night” which was the cherry on top to three grand and the doctor telling me my dog would have to stay in the ICU for a long period of time (she didn’t actually have an idea of how long “a long time” was). I got several calls with updates and ended up having the tough decision of euthanizing my puppers. After I told the doctor the choice I made, I requested she stopped running tests so my dog could have some peace. The doctor kept running tests and ended up calling me back to either have a $10,000 to save my dog for the night (not to solve the problems she came in with) or I would have to drive back (an hour and a half drive) at midnight to say goodbye. I ended up getting a little over a grand back from the estimate/downpayment 4 days after my dog was there. (In other words I paid almost 2 grand to have my dog there for less than 12 hours and not even get to bring her home.) To top this all off, I get a letter a month later saying they didn’t have all of my charges in order when they refunded me so I still owe them money. *PSA I looked through the reviews after all of the happened and there were a handful 1-2 star reviews saying they had pretty much the same experience and the total star review was 3.3. Now all of the sudden (a month later) they have a 4.9 star review and those bad reviews are nowhere to be found.
Excellent experience from the moment we walked in terrified for our Maggie. The best all the way until we walked out of the door and it continued in the follow up aftrwards!
My dog became paralyzed suddenly with no obvious trauma. Our local clinic was not equipped with the imaging equipment required to see what was going on so we were given some options. We choose to go to the clinic at ISU because we are somewhat familiar with the area. I am so glad we did. The campus itself inspires confidence and the staff is exceptional. My boy was rushed into surgery and we took him back home today(about 2.5 days in their care). Well worth the road trip. Money well spent. Thank you so much for keeping my family whole. Special thanks to Meredith who gave use regular status updates, spent time with my little man Zuko and kept him feeling loved while in their care. While I hope nothing like this ever happens again, if it does I know exactly where we are going. Give your pet the best chance possible and take them here if at all possible.
