So here is what happened when I called Amy who works here. I took a young injured raccoon to her she opened the box grabbed the baby by the scruff of the neck roughly and exclaimed " I don't have a buddy for it and I don't have time for it take it to animal control so they can put it down." I have rescued and rehabbed in the past on my families cattle ranch with permits from the game warden mind you this was the 80s. I was disgusted with Amy and took the little one home and contacted an out of state vet.We came up with a plan and in a little over a month "Coco" had improved a great deal and was very healthy. I called Amy again and said she was better but still had some issues, thinking maybe that day she was just having a bad day possibly. Nope, she didnt want to hear any of it she was using vulger language yelling at me ordering me to take Coco to have her destroyed. I just said ok and hung up. Now I'm disgusted and need to do something because there is just no way I'm dealing with with this Amy who I have come to find out has no respect for wildlife and is on a huge power trip. I have talked to so many people who refuse to volunteer there anymore due to her behavior. I had previously contacted a sanctuary and when I told Amy she yelled at me and said there is no place like that! Oh but yes there is and I had made arrangements to drive Coco there to live out her beautiful happy little life with other disabled racoons. (Her hind legs were weak but recovery was still in progress) The next thing I know is I get a call from someone who had a rescue in California and said Amy had called them and they wanted to help. I figured out right away it was the department of fish and game. The forced me to give Coco over not caring about her recovery not caring that there was a sanctuary waiting for her and telling me when they saw Coco that they were told this baby was near death and suffering and they admitted they were not told the truth. They told me they had been hunting me for 3 weeks! Mind you this is our tax dollars at work all so they could tell me their vet would look at her and maybe she could be an ambassador animal. I had hope but that was soon dashed. Coco spent from Friday to Monday terrified and crying and on Monday morning after me begging to have the vet call before any decisio was made. Nope they killed her. A healthy happy young racoon for no good reason. I would swear in a court of law as to the truth of my statement. I am not a radical fanatic with unreasonable thoughts. I am the wife of a retired police officer, raised on a working cattle ranch, hunter, fisherman. I fully understand the weights and balance of nature. This incident was criminal and Coco suffered because of Amy and the department of fish and game. The law is very specific as to what constitutes abuse and Coco was subjected to undu terror and cruelty. I loved our game warden years ago but this is a new day and a sad time. Department of fish and game isn't what it once was. This should have never happened. Coco may have just been another racoon to many but she was loved and fought to recover so she could live and be happy. She deserves better. Shame on this bully Amy! She showed everyone how powerful she is didnt she?
Very thankful for their prompt and effective rescue of 3 juvenile turkeys that had fallen down a storm drain! These two women where quite resourceful, caring, and determined.
These people are a true blessing. They have helped me on a few occasions with birds. Hatchling. Very caring. I return the goodwill with a donation.
They took the little hummingbird I found. Took it right away they definitely know what they are doing
Wonderful! We had a lil baby hummingbird that fell and we thought he was dead so I called NAR and they told me to look at his eyes if they are moving/blinking at first they weren’t so I hung up all sad. Then about 30 minutes later I see him moving his head around! I called back again and they had someone come over to my work within 20 minutes! I was still sad and asked if they thought he was save able and she said they had great people there they could save him! Oh I was so happy. I asked if the y could call me with the outcome and she said they usually do! Thank you!
This place is great. Ive had to come here 5-6 times over the years, always to drop off injured birds. They are always so great and take the animals without any Hassel. Thank you all for the great work you do!
