Big Lake is all about friendly, helpful staff and a well run facility. I'm so glad this shelter is here to meet the needs of animals in Muskegon and beyond. The dog I adopted was brought up from a kill shelter in Tennessee. He is half Rottweiler and half Chow, and just the sweetest guy. He needed treatment for heartworms when I adopted him. Big Lake gave me the information and support I needed to successfully treat him. Now he is energetic and such a fun clown. My experience with Big Lake shelter and Big Lake veterinarians has been great.

We adopted Aurora (previously Jules) about a month ago, and she has settled in so perfectly. We play and cuddle every day now! She is such a friendly and loving cat. So appreciative of the staff there who were so informative, attentive, and just generally very supportive to help us find our new friend.

Amazing shelter with amazing staff. The cats were all so well taken care of and able to express their personalities, free of the stress you usually see at shelters. We're so happy we were able to adopt here. ♡

AlwYs been good to my dog the couple times they picked him up! He's an escape artist ! my neighbor didn't like me mostly and reported my dog after she lured him over to her van with a sandwich having her granddaughter doing the luring claiming she was scared of him! Make that make sense...

We adopted our sweet girl Jubilee (formally jewell) from this shelter after looking at a few different facilities; we couldn’t be happier with our decision! Both when we adopted her and when she came back for a heartworm check the staff were so happy and excited to see jubilee living her best life with us, they loved her just like we have. They love and care about every single pet in their care like they are their own.

We love the MHS! Five years ago, we took a chance and adopted our first senior rescue, Duke. He came to us at 9 1/2 years of age from a single human home only to join our family of six (four humans and two dogs). From day one, Duke adapted to our chaos like the regal dog he was. The staff was amazing! He was well cared for during his time at the MHS and they were wonderful to work with through the entire process. I would encourage everyone to take a chance on a senior dog; you may just find your snow buddy or sous chef😉 Sadly, we recently had to say goodbye to our beloved Duke, but the five years we had with him was worth it! Please give this wonderful organization a chance to help you find your next best friend.
