I tried adopting a cat in January of 2022. They told me that they don’t just adopt cats out to anyone, you can’t just pick one and get it. They match their cats with appropriate adopters. I was not suitable for Giorgio (who is probably still available - as of right now he still needs a home and has been available for a year now). His adoption fee was $350 which I was willing to pay which is outrageous. I’ve since adopted a cat with another organization and it was a smooth and easy process. Adoption process: they need to interview me, my dad, my boyfriend, visit our home, then we would all have to meet the cat in the home. THEN they would decide if you were a good fit. I also believe they check your home to make sure you have all the supplies already before they will approve you. They also won’t suggest alternative cats for you to adopt, I was just told ‘no’ in a 20 minute phone call. Reasons I could not adopt Giorgio who is an escape artist/runner were: 1. Me and my boyfriend are young and might have parties. People will be coming in and out of the house and let the cat out. 2. Me and my boyfriend might have children. I told her no, we won’t. She said that might change. Even when I insisted it was a medical issue as well and was not advised to get pregnant. Still told no. The children (that I’m not having) could let the cat out. 3. My dad (who isn’t super fond of cats) is older and probably slower and won’t be able to catch the cat if it escapes. I believe she also mentioned my dad just might not care and let the cat out. 4. I might live in a busy area and if the cat gets out, he’ll get hit and die. They recently adopted a kitten out that got killed… and that was somehow my fault and a strike against me. I think they’ve lost sight of the goal which to me is to put animals in good homes. My now-adopted cat is spoiled beyond belief which could have been one of their cats. Instead, they’ll hold onto their cats for a year. Can’t imagine how many other people have been rejected. Update in August 2024: said cat is still available. I would be careful donating to an organization that has cats in their care for longer than 2+ years. Imagine how many more animals could be helped with the donations going to the pets they won’t give up….

We’ve adopted 3 cats from TLC and they were so professional and helpful making it a smooth process. They have always been prompt to answer our questions and concerns. We are forever grateful for this organization to rescuing these animals and to making them apart of our family.

I have tried to adopt 2 cats now. Filled out the applications, attempted to contact the organization, and just never heard back on either occasion. I cannot find a phone number and they have NEVER once even responded to my applications. Each time now, I've missed out on beautiful cats that would have gone to very a loving and caring home. Not even a response. If I fill out the applications, why am I left in limbo wondering if I will be accepted to adopt a cat? To me, this is terrible customer service.

I fell in love with a cat at PetSmart. I filled out the adoption papers which asked very limited questions. I’ve had cats all my life and provide a good home. My cats have always had the best of care. I’ve even taken them to Toronto for specialist it that’s what they needed. Any vet I’ve ever had has told me he/she wants to come back as my cat. They are spoiled rotten, but I can’t help it.Anyway, when I didn’t hear back I phoned them. I was told that I do not phone, and if I don’t hear back that means I can’t adopt the cat. Would not tell me why. Everyone I know including my vet, doesn’t know why and the questions are so basic they can’t determine what kind of home I have to offer. I have no idea what is up with this shelter or even if is legit.

TLC animal rescue is one of the most compassionate rescues in Windsor. Nina was so helpful with all of my concerns. It takes a very special person to do this on an everyday basis. Nina and her sister are angels on this earth.
