Finally at a place where we can hold it together enough to write this review. We highly recommend VCA VRC if your pet needs advanced veterinary care. We were referred by our regular vet after they found a mass in our cat’s abdomen. We were treated with kindness, compassion, and professionalism during every interaction with the staff. The doctors kept in touch with us throughout the ordeal and gave us the information we needed to make decisions about the next steps. The outcome of our pet’s surgery was not what we’d hoped, and sadly we had to say goodbye to our precious boy, as they found untreatable cancer. Despite the outcome, we know he received the best possible care at this hospital during his final day. Following his passing, we received the kindest card from the hospital, with detailed notes from many of their staff members telling us about our boy and their time with him while he was in their care. RIP Milo, fly high sweet boy.
We have gone to VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center several times over the last 1.5 years. To say that I am very happy with our experiences is an understatement. Their cardiology and emergency oncology departments are amazing. They are currently treating one of our kitties for heart failure. Last year they treated another one of our kitties for cancer. Our kitty with cancer did pass away last year (it was a rare and aggressive type cancer). VCA were so thorough with her treatment and knowledgeable, they explained everything and all options with us. When she passed we were at peace that she was given the best care and treatment. Based on the amazing care given passed and currently, their thorough treatment, and knowledge, I trust them more than any other emergency veterinary hospital. They are an emergency veterinary hospital, so the times that our cats went initially were on an emergency bases. But we stayed with them for the continued treatment in oncology and cardiology. We do have a regular vet (it is always important to have a regular vet). But, for emergency services and specialty treatment (cancer/heart failure) we go straight first to VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center every time. Thank you for the amazing care given in the past and currently.
I took my dog in for a severe cough that wouldn't stop. Dr. Mary was awesome. She has a very calming and warm energy that my dog and I both appreciated. He is 12 and has never let a Vet touch him without being absolutely terrified but he was cooperative with Dr. Mary. I wish she could be our permanent Vet! The lobby was clean and most of the staff were very nice. I appreciated the fact that they take the dogs back right away so there isn't a lobby full of sick or hurt dogs. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because I called a couple days later with a question about one of the medications and the person who answered said she would check with the Dr. and call me back and no one ever called. Overall, I highly recommend this place and would definitely return.
Took my cat here, who ended up needing emergency surgery on his intestines. We went late in the evening. Wait times are typical for an emergency vet. All the doctors and vet techs we worked with were so amazing. I felt like they really explained everything and were very empathetic. This is your sign to get pet insurance if you can. We have Trupanion, which this office takes directly so you don’t have to pay the entire bill upfront and get reimbursed after everything is processed. The only thing I would add is this vet office’ policy is that you pay your deductible, your portion of the service (ours was 10%) and whatever trupanion wont cover. This vet drafts an estimate so some things can’t be quantified (medication, etc) until the very end. For us we had to front around 4,000 (out of 9000) but are getting reimbursed a majority of it back now that everything was finalized. So know that you will have to front some of the portion but not the entire thing. Just adding this to be aware since it was a bit of a shock to us, but the front office people and the finance department explained everything and were very helpful. Overall, I’d take my pets here again since this process was made much easier given the circumstances.
My dog was attacked while I was out of town. He was brought in and they refused to give him any treatment until I paid around 3000. Being out of town I didn't have access to all my funds. And I told them I could only pay half and needed 48 hours to come up with the rest. I tried to get money over the next 2 hours while they left him to sit on the cold floor and bleed. He was in pain so eventually we made the decision to put him down. He should be alive right now but these people do not care about saving animals. I don't get direct deposit so I just needed to fly home and grab my check from work but they didn't care. He's gone and it was completely avoidable. Do not bring your pets here if it is an emergency. These people make me sick.
This place has a terrible reputation and now I know why. Brought my kitty in (that means everything to me) on Saturday immediately after aspirating on medication. Vet simply looked at him and said due to appearance he did not warrant any further examination or x ray. I trusted the vet. Kittys breathing worsened greatly and had to be hospitalized to save his life. Looked at vets notes from this visit and the doctor wrote that I declined a recommended x ray. As stated above doctor declined the x ray I wanted. I contacted them as this error on their chart could pose an issue with my kitty’s insurance provider (I work in ins industry and know how these carriers operate) and now VCA stated they would not amend the notes to correctly represent what took place. They are afraid of a lawsuit and their legal team must have advised them not to admit any kind of negligence. Kitty had made a miraculous recovery but I am still out 5k or so and they said they would “verbally” speak to his provider should there be an issue w the claim. I said that the ethical failures at play here are very disturbing and I would share my experience to warn others. They will advise you further diagnostics aren’t needed and then prevent a potential case of malpractice being brought against them (this was never my plan not intention) by noting that you declined life saving diagnostics. STAY AWAY FROM VCA.
