Description Veterinary Wellness Center of Boerum Hill is a full-service animal hospital located in Brooklyn, New York. Our compassionate and knowledgeable veterinarians treat emergencies and non-emergencies, and our hospital conducts on-site diagnostic testing, so your pet has the best prognosis for whatever is ailing them. We are also aware of how stressful the veterinarian can be, and because of this, we offer separate entrances for the cats and dogs so as to avoid fighting and to grant you and your pet a positive experience.

The staff at Boerum Hill is always so friendly and kind and patient. I’ve been bringing my dog (20lb poodle mix) here for years and have never waited more than 5-10 min to be seen for our appointment and never had a bad experience! I feel like the entire staff is super compassionate and they go out of their way to make us feel as comfortable as possible. I appreciate that it’s easy to make an appointment over the phone and they always follow up after treatments to make sure we are ok. Plus they always have time for my many questions regarding the best care for my pup. Can’t recommend them more highly!
I find Veterinary Wellness Center of Boerum Hill to be average at best. While the veterinary care itself we found to be OK (we stayed there for about 5 years), the service has unfortunately gone down hill over the past year or so. The transparency and customer service they deliver is well below any vet I've used in the past or would come to expect from a trusted relationship. First, when it comes to estimates, they do not provide written estimates for you to look over and will only either read it to you over the phone and/or have you look at it in person at their office. So when you're talking about a couple thousand dollar procedure, you need to take their word for each charge and either write everything down or just have a great memory. Not very transparent to me. When we asked Dr. Arpino about estimates, he said that is the policy of the vet because he doesn't want us to "shop around for a better price" with other vets in the area. Even though that is not why I would want the estimate, isn't that my right if I wanted to look elsewhere if I found it to be expensive? Also on the topic of transparency, my dog had to go in for a procedure a few months ago, and I needed to drop her off in the morning. They told me she would be ready later that morning by 11am if I recall correctly. 11am came and went with no call, then 12pm, then 1pm. Finally I called at 2pm and my pet still had not been seen and the receiptionist didn't know when she would be seen. As a pet owner, you worry about the well being of your pet when they are not in your immediate care and would expect someone to proactively call you to let you know there is a delay so you don't have to worry and can plan the rest of your day. Dr. Arpino said that was a mistake and I should have never been told a time from the receptionist. The reception staff is also hit or miss. Some are great and courteous, while others can be down right rude. In fact, one of them hung up on me when I asked for clarification on why a written authorization is needed a second time when I just sent the same authorization a few months ago and asked for my pet's medical records be sent to me again since there was another visit in-between the first authorization and now. Overall, they're super complicated to deal with and if you are OK with average service, this is the vet for you. If you expect good care along with transparency and polite staff, then you should probably use a different vet.
This is my second time writing a review for this Vet....we have now brought 3 cats to them, and I think that we have probably met with all of their doctors at this point. We can just not say enough good things about them. They are knowledgable, compassionate, friendly, and have been amazing at working with us in finding the right solutions to fit each pet. Some vets are all about selling /recommending things that aren't needed--and this is not the case here. My husband and I agree that it is our favorite vet that we have ever been to (each of us having had several animals over the years), not least because they honestly seem to consider the pet's wellbeing first and foremost. We are so thrilled to have found them!
Brilliant care. The whole team were courteous, caring and professional. Kept us informed whilst both diagnosing and treating our dog while waiting on blood work and x-rays. Really wonderful service whilst we ourselves were concern for our poorly pup. Would absolutely recommend.
This place sucks. Was referred by a rescue organization for surgery. When called and inquired they said no availability for 2 days. So I said okay can we schedule for that day. Then I started getting the run around of excuses.
Avoid this veterinary center at all costs. They are at best incompetent and at worst negligent price gougers. Several months ago we brought our cat to their care because he was presenting with respiratory distress. We were advised that the only possibility was advanced lung cancer, and he would need to be on palliative care until end of life (they gave him months). After 10 days of steroid treatment, his symptoms had fully resolved and on repeat imaging, the “cancerous” marks had disappeared and he was declared cancer-free. The possibility that he could have a simple respiratory infection was never explained at any point, nor did they acknowledge after the fact. Today, we brought our cat in as he was presenting at home with nausea and persistent straining attempts to defecate. We were advised that the most likely possibility was a bladder blockage, despite all his symptoms and subsequent imaging not backing up that theory. We were referred to an emergency animal hospital that basically laughed off the possibility of a bladder blockage and said his issue was constipation. They helpfully discharged us without cost, back to our original vet - this one - who then charged us for the subsequent treatment necessitated by their total incompetence. Avoid at all costs. Edit 7/29: We just spoke with the owner, Dr. Arpino, who was solely defensive about the needless diagnostics and subsequent misdiagnoses delivered in both cases of our cat’s care. For an organization that purports to care about your pets - they didn’t even bother to call today to check how our cat was doing. Dr. Arpino contends that the standard of care for any cat issue is to do blood work, imaging, and get a radiology consult, even though when we brought our cat to Blue Pearl, they were able to instantly diagnose his issue with solely an x-ray and manual exam - and this is without receiving the results from Vet Wellness Center’s exams - AND Blue Pearl comped all of their services. I cannot stress enough how defensive of their own incompetence these providers are - they do a disservice to pets, owners, and veterinarians everywhere with their total lack of ability and professionalism. Their sole object is your fee, end of story.
