We went on a Saturday morning and picked out our boy formerly named Dojo after seeing him online the night before. They online description was spot on. One of the volunteers helped us let us take our boy outside and they went so far as to bring out another dog so we could see how he interacts with other dogs. They let us take our time and answered all of our questions. Our Dollar has found his forever home and we will be back once he settles in a bit more for a brother or sister for him. Thank you to all the Volunteers who work at this shelter and help all those pets who need them.
The City of Buffalo Animal Shelter is an amazing organization that does so many things both publicly and behind the scenes to save as many dogs and cats as possible in the City of Buffalo. It is a municipal organization that lacks a lot of funding, but the people who both work and volunteer there care so deeply for the animals and are truly a lifeline for so many abused and abandoned creatures that would be euthanized in any other city. I’ve adopted all of my dogs and cats from here and they’ve been the best pets I’ve ever owned. The shelter is extremely understaffed and relies on volunteers to help take care of the animals, so please be patient and keep in mind that everyone here is doing their best with what they have to work with. If you’re interested in an animal your best bet is to go down there in person as the shelter does not have the staff to be able to answer phones. Trust me, the extra effort is so worth it to save a precious animals life and find your new best friend! #AdoptDontShop! ❤️
I attempted to adopt a special needs kitten from this location for over a week, but I was unable to connect with anyone. I submitted an application, emailed, and phoned, but never received a response (website says can take up to 3 days). When I checked their website today, I discovered that the kitten I was interested in had already been adopted. I'm very disappointed that they advertised the animal but were never going to answer inquiries from potential adopters. I ultimately adopted two adorable kittens this week from another rescue organization, but it's just a shame that they don't have any outreach at the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter! From what I can see looking at their social media, they pour more effort into the dogs.
I messaged the page and asked about the adoption process. I was only suppplied with a link to fill out an application and the application is broken, it kept wanting a landlords name & number, when it is clearly marked that we own. This page said to please stop by the shelter on Saturday. I stopped by the shelter & I spoke with a couple who met maple tge day before. I also spoke with another person who said she was going to take maple to an event, but that she would go & get her so that I could meet her. Maple came in & it was utter chaos. 3 big dogs were being led in and out. Another dog came in for surrender. The person who had Maple scooped her up off the floor. An overly agressive volunteer came up to me & said I needed to pay her cash or venmo right now, even though I had barely met maple yet. I started askkng her about the adoption process & explained that I have a 14 & 1/2 dog that I cannot easily get there. She then demanded that I bring my 14 1/2 year old dog , who cannot get in & out of the car easily to the shelter and told me I cannot adopt. I live 50 minutes away. I then went to the counter to ask about the adoption process and the unhinged venmo volunteer came up and told them I will not be adopting. She then went over to the girl holding Maple & told her that I will not be adopting. The couple asked how it went with Maple & I told them I am not allowed to adopt. The lovely lady who I was talking to previously, stopped me & asked how it was meeting maple. I explained that I was told I am not allowed to adopt. Then the unhinged venmo volunteer came up & demanded that I stop talking to this person. She told me that if I spoke to the lovely lady, the lovely lady would not tell me anything differently. I asked her to STOP being so RUDE, that I was having a private conversation. The lovely lady said to reach out through messenger, that someone might be able to bring Maple to us to meet our dog Lily. I left in tears. I reached out through messenger & the lovely lady told me that she is looking into having someone bring maple out to meet our dog Lily, to please send my address & availability. She said to go ahead with the adoption process & to apply online, even though it still asked for a landlords name & number. We also contacted our previous vet to release all information. Monday we were told Maple has been adopted, but here are some other dogs and we CAN hold them until Wednesday for you. We still have not been told if our application has been approved or our vet has been contacted. We are thoroughly heartbroken by this entire process. We hope no one else has this experience.
Very special people taking care of all the beautiful sweethearts. Kind, caring, loving. I adopted my best friend from here and she has been an Angel to many! My Parents adopted a little Chi from here and she was heaven sent!
Employees were very helpful with tulah. We thank you. Tulah has adjusted well and is a fast learner. She is learning her basic skills and commands nicely. Tulah is maturing into a fine dog. She has a super personality and is learning all strange new sounds from the local farm. She is a joy to watch as she learns. Last entry...tulah has a big heart and is quite sensitive as well having a mischievous side...she is a great family addition!
