The worst animal shelter I have ever seen and in a very bad neighborhood. I took a kitten that lived in my complex to them I was taken care of because the manager was going to get rid of him. I went there and they ask me was it my kitten and I told them no. I then email and ask if I could adopt today and message on IG the night before. After I spoke to the manager if I could keep him and the procedures. Those people accused me of lying to them and said they spent a lot of money when in fact this kitten was already healthy. The complex took care of him but he lived outside. We didn’t even go into details about the kitten. They told me they are full and gave me other shelters to call. I was going to leave but they decided to take him and then blaming me and saying I took advantage. Stay clear from them and take animals somewhere is. The fact I only saw those people for five minutes and trying to call me a liar was out of line. Stay clear from them and I hate I took him there. I should have known because the place looks abandoned.
I found a dog that wasn’t chipped last Saturday and the lady at the animal clinic suggested I speak to Elizabeth at ARF. She was very friendly and told me to bring the dog by on Sunday. When I arrived, I was greeted by a group of very friendly ladies who gave the dog, who I named Moonah, three vaccines free of charge. After lots of posts to see if we could find the owner, I’ve decided to take the dog. I noticed that they had a truck for water out front, which shocked me to know that they are running a no kill rescue shelter with 300 dogs and 150 cats with no water. I really hope the city of Jackson can provide their constituents their right to fresh water. I commend everyone involved in that organization for fighting for these animals, and I hope that there is some other way I can be of support for your organization. Sending you all lots of love!!! Below is a photo of Moonah after her second night. She’s getting used to life with us, and in part thanks to everyone at ARF!
I've been volunteering here on the weekends for a couple of months now. While there isn't much that I can do, I really enjoy the opportunity to help out the animals, and the people there. It's mostly just getting to walk the dogs, and play with them. It's a large space with a lot of dogs of various sizes in kennels of various sizes. The dogs undergoing treatment are kept in a separate room, inside kennels. When you need to talk to someone there, you will have to step outside because the dogs will see you and bark at you to get your attention. I'm sure they're all looking for a home where they'll feel loved and appreciated. If anyone reading this wants to go volunteer, try calling. If they don't answer, you could go there to talk to someone about what time work for you and the shelter. And do let them know a day or two in advance if you're going, helps keep them some tasks out for you. Also, there are lots of dogs there. Please be don't expect it to smell like flowers. It's an animal shelter, not a rose garden.
They never pick up the phone and when I drove all the way there it looks like the building is abandoned.
Very rude and unprofessional!!! I was harassed through email by one of the staff members!!! If I could give a negative 0 I would!!! Sad!!!
I found a great dog on petfinder, but after calling and emailing to no avail, I decided to visit the dog during my lunch break. I just left this place, and I have to say... I was shocked and disturbed at what I saw. From the street, there is no visible signage that the building was a dog rescue, however if there is any doubt, you can always follow your nose. Prepare yourself for the smell when you exit the car. The thick smell of "pets" smacks you in the face. The yard and parking lot was unkempt, the grass was overgrown, cages were scattered about, and it looked like a hoarder lived there. There are about ten cages in the lobby, which is full of other random office supplies, there is nowhere for you to sit. The smell is even stronger inside and the harsh ammonia vapors make your eyes water. There is a hole in the tattered ceiling. I could literally see the sky from the lobby. Workers were walking the dogs through the front lobby and said nothing to me while I waited for someone to come to the front desk(no one ever did). I didn't even walk into the back for fear of throwing up from the smells. This seems like a place where pets are just brought in and put in cages, but who knows. Either way, I feel terrible for any animal that would have to be trapped in a place like this. Perhaps they should reduce their numbers so they would have resources to improve conditions. I would encourage anyone reading this to go find a pet there, because the animals living there need a rescue from this rescue. Also , I am not being dramatic when I talk about the smell, for those used to sanitary environs, this will be overwhelming. Bring a cloth and some essential oils to cover your face and mask the smell.
