To imagine that they were going to EUTHANIZE my very beautiful healthy Chinese Shar-pei bc she was pregnant and they “didn’t have anyone to care for pregnant dogs or puppies”. Thank God I was able to find someone to help me, I will be reporting this business to the BBB. If they have too much, they need to close down or open a new organization or hire more staff!!

Wish I could leave zero stars. Mississippi Animal Rescue League is a complete joke! We drove to Jackson yesterday afternoon to adopt a dog because our family recently passed away and thought a rescue pup would be the perfect addition to our family. Their website states they close at 5. We arrived at 4:15 after a traffic delay from a bad accident and were told we could look at the animals but couldn’t adopt because there wasn’t enough time to fill out the application since it wasn’t done on a computer. The lady made it sound like the process was done by chisel and stone and would take hours but we later found out it’s actually just regular pen and paper. 🤷🏼‍♀️ We found the perfect dog for us, and drove back first thing this morning to get her. We filled out the application, which took all of 3 minutes by the way, and while we were waiting on them to review it, at least 10 animals were surrendered. It was gut wrenching. They called us up and denied our application IN FRONT OF EVERYONE IN THE LOBBY, even though there are private adoption rooms off to the side. The reason? Our tiny little chihuahua at home isn’t neutered and they said it was against their policy to adopt to a household with unaltered pets. Funny thing is, I read their policy three times … before AND after our trip this morning and again after we were denied and it literally does NOT state that. They are begging folks to adopt and have animals being abandoned, surrendered and euthanized left and right at that shelter, but turn away people who would provide a loving, forever home. Mind you, the dog we wanted had already been spayed so what was the big deal? Plus she was enormous and our little dog is all of 3lbs. Completely ridiculous! Zero stars. Do not recommend!! We were devastated and I cried most of the way home, knowing that if someone isn’t approved to adopt her soon, she will just be put down for no reason. Do better, MARL!! Your staff is rude and heartless. This is my second bad experience with an animal shelter and unfortunately, this is why many people choose to “shop” rather than adopt … at least they know who and what they’re dealing with. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy 🥺💔

I came to the shelter trying to adopt a dog named Rocky. They gave us a hard time so we had to come back the next day. The next day we came back they had started adoption papers for Rocky with somebody else. The lady at the front desk said they could not adopt because they had a parvo outbreak in the puppy room and Rocky was showing signs of parvo. They said Rocky could not go anywhere and that we could call and check on him. The next day I called to check on Rocky and they said he had been adopted. It is illegal to give out sick dogs and I was reading their reviews this is not the first time they have did this.

I called this shelter simply for the name “MS Animal RESCUE League” for two dogs that I could no longer keep for a family member. I wanted to choose somewhere I knew they both would be safe and cared for. I had previously read reviews about them saying they would put animals down for various reasons so I wanted to be sure before bringing the dogs. When I called I gave the lady basic information about the dogs . One of the dogs is a pit bull and she a small and sweet 4 yr old girl. I was informed that per their policy they would put the pit down because of her breed. How is this place a rescue league for animals but they kill them just because of the stereotype of the breed?? The name of this place should be changed because it is truly misleading to say the least.

I called about bringing in 2 small kittens a strayed had and has stopped nursing them. The guy said “we don’t turn away any animals”…. I bring them in only to be told that they will be “put down “ because they are so young (just now starting to eat soft food)… I was so surprised and upset…. They don’t turn away but they also don’t tell you that young animals will be euthanized! I hope to find them good homes in the next few weeks….

Found a female stray dog that was starving and terrified. I contacted this group and they assured me she wouldn't be put down unless she had a health issue that couldn't be handled. Also was told they would hold for 10 days for possible owners to retrieve her. It was all a lie. When I brought her in I was informed she would be put down because she was a pit. This was never told to me and she could have been multiple different breeds. She was a mutt. She was such a sweet little thing, so sad.
