I have been reluctant to write a review as I hate to burn a bridge when so few vets operate in the area, but with BOTH my dogs now having to wear cones to recover from their boarding here..I feel it would be a disservice to the community not to warn you. After a 4 day boarding stay, I picked up my two dogs who were both clearly covered in urine. They had developed soars on their feet and tails that are now infected four days later. One dog has a bleeding tail, the other is limping with soar-ridden paw pads and becoming more and more lethargic (barely able to lift his head up). It seems Briarwood Animal Hospital is unaware of the most basic needs of an animal. The writing has been on the wall for a while here, but this was the last straw. You'd think your vet would be the most capable to watch after your pet, but it turns out they'll let your pet suffer...probably to get another dollar out of you when you inevitably have to bring your pet back due to illness and injury sustained at their facility.

I brought my 6 month old cane corso here for the first time because she was suffering from bloody stool, skin issues and needed her shots. I had tried to take her to my regular vet but she was so timid that I decided to bring her to Briarwood because it wasn't on such a busy street. So I called and inquired about bringing her there and they advised me to drop her off and they would do an examination and let me know when it was time to pick her up and I obliged. When I came to pick her up, the lady at the front desk just handed me some medicine and instructed me to give her a different dosage than what was prescribed on the box. When I got home, I noticed that the medicine's weight requirement on the box was more than my puppy's current weight and so i decided to go against the recommendation of the front desk lady because I was afraid that she was going to overdose on the medicine. So a week goes by of her taking the medication and there was still no improvement in any of her conditions. So I ended up taking her back to my original vet who was able to take the time to talk with me about her health history, living environment etc. He told me that she had a mild fever and gave her some antibiotics for her fever and something else because he suspected that she might have giardia. The vet even took the time to answer my questions (about how female periods work) and showed me diagrams in an vet book about how dogs become infected by different worms. After bringing my puppy home from my original vet her bloody stool stopped completely and she stopped having accidents in the house! This experience made me a little disappointed in the bedside manner from Briarwood because: 1. I never got to meet the vet, just the person at the front desk and the guy who brought my dog to the back. 2. I left with more questions than answers 3. They didn't do a thorough examination ( Briarwood never told me that she was sick so who knows how long she would have been suffering from that fever) 4. They gave me conflicting instructions with the medicine 5. They didn't even check in with me to see if my dog was feeling better after my visit 6. They were more expensive and provided less care If you have a pet that just needs their routine shots or deworming then Briarwood might be a good fit but if your dog has some serious health issues that you needs to be addressed and analyzed, then I would advise you to go to the Animal Medical Center on S Frontage Rd.

I have stopped going here because the owners, Dr Dale, Dr Jones, and Dr Meadows do not give back to the community. Mississippi needs help with spay and neuter services. The Big Fix is not enough. And the Big Fix agrees with me on that. Briarwood does not help rescuers-ever. They do not ever offer reduced services. They do not take spay and neuter certificates from CARA. I have been paying out of my pocket to help Mississippi animals and if i can they surely can give back as well. They should help the larger community if they want to be successful.

The jury is still out on my experience. I had my dog and n their kennel for 5 days. My dog seemed very lethargic and thirsty after picking her up. She has two sores on her legs and runny, red eyes. I don’t know what to think. Positive: The staff was friendly. She’s going to the vet in a couple of days, so hopefully everything is okay. Update: Her eyes got worse so I took her to the vet. She is very stressed and anxious.

The staff is great! They have saved Bruno so many times. They are reasonably priced and go above and beyond to ensure my pet is healthy.

Staff is always very friendly. This is the third dog I have had that I used Briarwood for and I have no complaints. Dogs are always fine after boarding and they have some of the best boarding prices in town! I'd definitely recommend them!
