I am a long time volunteer with RI. I greatly believe in their mission and best practices put into place in recent years to make it an even better organization. Seeing the pups raised from birth through graduation with their client is remarkable. I am thankful to be a small part of their mission of Love. Dignity. Change.
It has been my honor and joy to volunteer with Retrieving Independence since 2021! We have a great team in place that is focused on positivity towards the community, towards our volunteers, towards our facility trainers, and towards our pups. I have seen first hand how dedicated our staff and teams are to our dog's health, happiness, and training. I have always felt supported in my role as a volunteer with education, extra helping hands, and encouragement. RI truly lives out its values of love, integrity, and change. I can't put into words how incredibly life changing this organization is for those in need of a service animal or even for myself, as a witness to such compassion and care for dogs and people.
We had my daughters beautiful RI seizure alert dog for 7 beautiful years. He was so well trained and knew his commands all his life. I am not sure if all these 1 stars are just friends and family doing them. We never had problems. And RI always answered and was next to us the whole time of his life! (He was famous, everyone loved him and knew how special he was!) We were standing in line at the bank and he even let a gentleman know his sugar was low.
I have followed Retrieving Independence since around 2015 when my friend puppy raised Goose. I have been impressed with their growth and all of the changes they have made in recent years, I’m excited to see what they do next. They have such dedicated volunteers, and their mission is so unique and interesting. I’d encourage anyone to learn more about what they do and how they do it.
Continuing to accepting donation funds and claim nonprofit status is ridiculous when they send "finished" service dogs to live with their disabled owners with a bite history, unfit for public access (a legal liability), and completely USELESS for service work. Then charge $13,000+? For THAT? You can pick up a mutt at the shelter with those traits for free. Its unfortunate they wont make the situation right with client Annie AND are continuing to take advantage of unassuming people who donate or purchase a service dog from them. Dont donate, dont support, dont apply.
Steals from underprivileged persons by denying them support once their dogs leave the program. Why pay nearly 15k for a dog then told “good luck” when you run into obstacles? Especially dangerous considering they’ve let dogs graduate that had bite history. Who’s to say your next service dog from this organization won’t bite people or dogs? All in all, they use threats and flimsy excuses to operate their business and provide no real solutions to very urgent problems. Do not recommend. Do not waste your time and money here! They’re shady.
