I have followed Retrieving Independence since around 2015 when my friend puppy raised Goose. I have been impressed with their growth and all of the changes they have made in recent years, I’m excited to see what they do next. They have such dedicated volunteers, and their mission is so unique and interesting. I’d encourage anyone to learn more about what they do and how they do it.

Steals from underprivileged persons by denying them support once their dogs leave the program. Why pay nearly 15k for a dog then told “good luck” when you run into obstacles? Especially dangerous considering they’ve let dogs graduate that had bite history. Who’s to say your next service dog from this organization won’t bite people or dogs? All in all, they use threats and flimsy excuses to operate their business and provide no real solutions to very urgent problems. Do not recommend. Do not waste your time and money here! They’re shady.

This program does not care about the dogs or the disabled people who look to them for support. They are negligent with the dogs and their training and if you attempt to communicate any issues to them, they do not listen and will gaslight you about whatever the issue is so they can dodge accountability. They're also fond of violating the ADA and currently have several pending lawsuits against them for negligence and ADA violations. THEIR DOGS ARE NOT ALL SAFE FOR DISABLED POL OR OTHER SERVICE DOGS TO BE AROUND.

I would give it zero stars if I could. This organization takes advantage of their clients and refuses to admit when they’ve done something seriously wrong. They have physical proof of records for a dog with resource guarding problems and still chose to graduate this dog as a service dog and then deny that the same dog attacked another one of their graduated service dogs. This organization sticks to their lies, and it’s ridiculous that they won’t help the service dog who was attacked, injured, and now unable to work for his handler due to extreme anxiety.

Continuing to accepting donation funds and claim nonprofit status is ridiculous when they send "finished" service dogs to live with their disabled owners with a bite history, unfit for public access (a legal liability), and completely USELESS for service work. Then charge $13,000+? For THAT? You can pick up a mutt at the shelter with those traits for free. Its unfortunate they wont make the situation right with client Annie AND are continuing to take advantage of unassuming people who donate or purchase a service dog from them. Dont donate, dont support, dont apply.

This company is exactly what you'd expect from a company of only white people as the "leaders". They'll charge you 3k to have your dog bit and give them such bad PTSD they can no longer be of service! And then instead of giving a rightful refund they intimidate you with nasty letters from lawyers. So if you like being taken advantage of this is the place for you! Otherwise I'd keep looking
