Our pup was admitted to the emergency care facility at 2am on a weekend. The staff came directly to our car to get him so he could start treatment immediately. He was in the hospital for almost a week and received round the clock care. Once he was cleared for visitation I was able to come whenever my schedule allowed. The Vets, techs and other staff were incredibly supportive and helpful. I would not hesitate to bring any of my pets there. Photos are during a visit and then 2 days after being discharged.
Today I was so nervous because my puppy was not feeling well but when I called the person who answered the phone was so nice , patient and informative that it made my fears go away. When I arrived everyone was so nice and helpful and everyone showed compassion. The doctor was very thorough and explained everything that will be done and the price as well as the treatment when my puppy goes home. This place is very well organized and clean. I would definitely recommend this place because you can tell they love their job and it shows in the passionate care they give . This was my first time going to a vet hospital and I hope this will be the last but if I had an emergency again I would definitely go back.. Thanks to all the doctors and staff!!!!
Now let me start off by saying, I worked here for a little over five years and would have trusted everyone here. That trust is long gone! DR. SIEGEL KILLED OUR CAT! If you’re going to go here make sure she doesn’t touch your pet! She prescribed a medication 10x’s his dosage! Instead of doing the conversion on the medication she kept it at 2.5 mil and it should have been .25 mil! We gave our cat this dose 5xs!! I had to advocate for our boy for her to even want to do bloodwork and send his urine out to check his urine protein. We know our cat and that something was wrong. He wouldn’t poop and was struggling to and she just acted like meh he’s fine, give him miralax and blah blah, which I had already done! She prescribed meds to help him go and I called every single day about four times a day saying he was getting worse and to please double check that this medication was okay to give with all his other meds! The tech told me yes! Then the error was caught by the amazing Dr. Clare (who was his internal medicine doctor already)! She told us to bring him right in and he stayed there from Thursday to Monday. For two days he was dosed the wrong fluids, the tech put the wrong fluids on him! That error was caught by Dr. Lucchetti and her awesome tech! He had a terrible end of life in the hospital! He had to get a feeding tube and just looked miserable! Then Monday his breathing declined and needed oxygen and he was declining fast and would most likely pass that night so we had to euthanize him. Dr. Clare and Dr. Lucchetti are very compassionate and are good at what they do, they tried everything to help him survive but he just wasn’t getting better. If you go here I would really ask multiple times before leaving that the medication is correct! Or look up the dosage chart on that medication so you know how much it really should be. It’s going to be really hard for us to ever go here again if we have an emergency. I could go on more about the senseless careless errors made in his care but I just hope no one else ever has to go through the emotional trauma of overdosing your own cat and that ultimately killing him! It’s a terrible feeling! (I kept contemplating even posting a review, it’s taken me two months to say something but I think people should know)
I highly recommend Charleston Veterinary Referral Center. From the receptionist to the technicians to the doctors they treated me with the utmost respect and kindness during a most stressful time. They help me feel at ease and I trusted them wholeheartedly. They got my dog regulated with his diabetes and he's back to his old self again which he hasn't been for months. If you have an emergency and your dog is in trouble this hospital is where you should take your baby. Their prices were reasonable and they really did try to keep my cost down. For me I don't care what the cost I'm just glad my baby was able to come home. Thank you to the staff of Charleston Veterinary Referral Center for your kindness, your patience and your professionalism.
If I could leave zero stars, I would. I had an injured puppy walking in the door, we were kindly greeted and he was rushed back to get x-rays done for his back leg. After the first few hours of waiting, we requested an update. They said they would soon, another hour, soon. By hour 5 I had to leave for work and my husband stayed to wait for our pup. We were then updated that he had a hairline fracture in his growth plate. Upon delivering the news they sat us in a private room to tell us a surgery would be roughly 10,000!!!! Or if we didn’t have that kind of money to consider amputating because that was more “in our price range”. They tried pushing us into signing up for credit lines immediately and my husband said he’d like to take him somewhere else for a second opinion. They then got nasty, trying to tell us our 400$ bill went to 1800$ and they threatened to call the cops, they wouldn’t give the puppy back to my husband until he flashed some cash and a stink at the front desk!! At this point he had been there for well over 9hours and been treated so poorly!!! A male nurse came in to tell him this was the “Ferrari of vets and if we wanted Honda prices we should have gone down the road. 10/10 wouldn’t recommend this place. Worst experience I’ve ever had at an animal hospital. And ps, going down the road we were offered a few more options other than a 10,000$ surgery and the other vet was shocked they even suggested amputation on a 12 week old pup. Shame on you guys for exploiting people for the love and worry of their animals.
My elderly dog was not going to make it but these heros saved her. She was failing when I brought her in and they told me very honestly it was 50/50. I have four kids, we struggle to pay bills but this was the best chance my dog had to live so I brought her regardless of the cost. She made it. I will always be grateful for the care she got and how kind the people who worked there were. They were extremely helpful and really do care about both the animals and the people who bring them in.
