Description VCA Bakersfield Animal Hospital has been providing compassionate, comprehensive, and skilled veterinary care for small and large animals in the Kern County area since 1923, and is accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). We also offer boarding and grooming. Accommodations at our state of the art boarding facility include pampered boarding, large indoor runs, kennels, Luxury Suites, cleaning and ventilation systems, and non-slip flooring. Dogs are walked three times a day in our numerous, spacious and landscaped, enclosed areas. Cats are housed in a separate area, away from barking dogs, to reduce stress.

We received excellent service for our ancient little dog's opthalmic emergency. At 7:00 p.m. when our regular vet was closed, we took our dog with a perforated eye to VCA. The wait was not as bad as it could have been, and they were able to hospitalize and treat him that night. We picked him up the next day with a very thorough treatment plan, all the medications he needed and a well-organized folder with all the notes and lab results in printed form. They communicated everything very clearly including the cost breakdown. The prices are fair for the services received. The vet, Dr. Landry, offered a variety of options, and didn't push us strongly in any particular direction. He was compassionate and professional. I would definitely recommend VCA on Harris Road for your pet's emergency medical treatment.

My dog became very ill due to cancer. 🎗️😔 I paid $300 to put my dog to sleep, have her cremated and I get to have her ashes back. I was offered different available choices... I got the biodegradable ashes in a bag so we can plant Rosy (our dog) under a tree. The bag comes with seeds to grow her ashes with roses🌹🌹 Good price, Staff were professional, quick, gave us same day service and we were attended quickly. We we're allowed to stay with our dog throughout the process (including my 13 year old). We were provided assistance with getting our dog off the truck and onto a gurney and we were provided a quiet room to grieve. I am really grateful to have this caring hospital in Bakersfield and grateful to have caring staff to make this process easier and supportive during a difficult time.❤️🏥💯 Thank you ALL❣️

Let me just start by saying wow, this facility helped me restore faith in humanity. Everyone all the staff were super sweet and compassionate. The vet that saw Baby Pops was super helpful and I also informed staff of my budget and they truly worked with me. My baby is in recovery now with all needed medications provided at the facility. I left with my heart whole when I walked in with a broken heart thinking I may lose my fur baby. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Dr. Alvarado was very kind, Elisa was patient ith my distressed girlfriend and the staff explained everything well. Everyone was skilled, calm and friendly. They were very prompt too, althought it wasn't that busy late night on a Sunday. My dog broke his nail near the root and they did a great job of getting the billing out of the way and taking care of my pup Shadow. Thank you all!

Before you bring your pet to this place, don’t forget that this place is a business and they will treat you as one. They will have no compassion for you or your pet unless you have the money, they will give you very little options and for the most part they are not willing to work with your budget. If you could please find another place I definitely wouldn’t go here. Rest in Peace my beloved Snow “Snowie” Melgar.

The whole staff is so friendly and helpful. We had an emergency with our dog but got a great service. They did all they can and and any time we had the information what's coming next and how much it will cost. We highly recommend this hospital. Thanks a lot. Emma is doing great again 😊
