After our Shih Tzu passed, we started looking for a small to medium-sized dog that don’t shed much hair. It took us a month and applied to 13 different shelters, but the dog that we want always on “reserved”, has a severe medical condition or already a senior that needs special care. The process of applying to adopt and get approved is easy, but choosing the right fit is hard. We happened to see One Tail At A Time online and just trying to see the dogs available. We’ve been approved right away and were scheduled to meet and greet on a female, Japanese Chin named Macaron the following Monday, September 11, 2023. Christina Wade, who fosters Macaron for more than two months, was very accommodating and helpful in what to expect if we adopt the dog. The next day, we decided to continue the adoption process and pay the adoption fee online. The following day, we picked her up and had our “forever furry-companion.” IMPRESSIONS: We have never been in the OTAT center or met any of their staffs but the process of adoption was a breeze. The whole process was done through exchanges of emails, and the adoption fee was made online. We’re surprise that the accessibility of Macaron’s records will be on an online portal, which is much easier to navigate, download, and share to your vet clinic. We highly recommend this rescue center! Do not judge them through the few negative reviews. You should try and be honest with them on your adoption application. To the OTAT, thanks for making this happen to us. Your time and professionalism were really appreciated. More power to you all!

My husband and I adopted our first dog from here at the beginning of the year! We could tell they really take care of the animals and are passionate about their future! They supported us through every step and gave us plenty of resources to make the transition as smooth as possible for our girl! The foster parents we worked with were incredible also! Update: We loved this place so much we adopted a second and are even more in love with them! Wonderful process, very open with us about the dogs behavior(for both), and helped us transition smoothly integrating 2 dogs together! They are now best friends ❤️ so thankful for One Tail At A Time bringing our little family together 😁🥰

One Tail at a Time is an amazing rescue that dedicated time, resources and even offers training support for your adopted dog. We fostered and adopted our dog Bluebell from here and the community has been an amazing resource throughout our journey. I can’t recommend OTAT enough!!!

I’ve been a volunteer at One Tail at a Time for a year and have had the privilege of caring for many dogs while they find their forever home. Everyone who works or volunteers for One Tail at a Time is committed, passionate and devoted to the dogs! I’m in awe of the work they do! Here are just a few pictures of the hundred dogs I’ve met and loved.

One Tail At A Time is one of the greatest animal organizations in the Chicago area, hands down. I recently started fostering with them and have felt very supported through the entire process! They provide assistance with supplies, transportation, and most importantly have an incredible group of pets. My foster dog Quincy came from a high risk shelter in Indiana and is the sweetest boy in the world, I am so grateful to this organization for allowing him to have a second chance at life! The work this organization does is truly amazing I would recommend adoption/fostering/volunteering here to anyone!
