If you are looking to adopt a pet, this is a great option in the city. We recently adopted a 2yo cat (King) and he’s very happy in his new home. He adjusted very well.

I’ll start by saying the girl up front is extremely rude, seems like she doesn’t even want to be there. The last time I was there she didn’t want to help me and someone had to come out of another room when he overhead me asking questions that were not being answered or even attempted to be answered. Anyways, I was told that the cat I wanted to adopt was exposed to an illness and that they would keep him for a week on observation and would call me on Saturday to let me know what’s going on. Saturday rolls around and I decide to just show up FIRST THING AS THEY OPEN… I was told that they tried calling me and I didn’t answer so they put the cat back on the adoption list but if I wanted him he was still available. I asked what number they called and they had one digit incorrect which is strange bc on the adoption papers.. my phone number was correct. Anyways, I get the cat and they told me he’s healthy and ready to be brought home. Later that same day, I noticed he was sneezing and now 2 days later he’s really sick so I take him back to the shelter and they tell me they won’t even look at him unless I surrender him which means he would no longer be my cat anymore (not to mention, I believe he has a URI and they said they would have to probably send him out for treatment or to get EUTHANIZED…. for a stuffy nose? 🥴🤔) I’m just amazed at how they are allowing sick animals to be adopted. They are completely useless here and I will never recommend this place to anyone again.

The fact that this place told me in an email that they will not come get an abandoned dog is just more pure animal cruelty in my eyes. You work for the city , you are animal control, Temps have gone below freezing. Doniella is their name, tells me I have to go find the dog an bring it to them😂😒 when I see other people they have went out to them to get the animal. We get to pick an choose who we rescue now? If anyone is missing a dog there's a German shepard roaming the streets in the chicago lawn neighborhood near Sacramento & Whipple. This was at 5 am this morning.

Great experience! It was a lot of people there to adopt animals. I went during a time when shelter was overcrowded with animals who needed homes. So the adoption fee was $0. I got my asha who is sweet and introverted. But she loves me because she likes to lay next to me and rub on my hands and feet. It took about two weeks for her to get used to me. She also endured alot of trauma and is very jumpy. She runs the house lol. I kept her name that the shelter gave her. I was able to take her home same day. She had rabies and vaccines completed at the shelter. She came chipped and ready to go. Wonderful experience. I recommend adopting if you can. A lot of animals need a safe place to grow and bring love to good homes. 💚

It is extremely frustrating if you want to adopt anything but a pit bull. I've made several trips to adopt a small dog, and every time I'm told they're on a rescue hold. I don't see why they can't call the rescue and just tell them they have an adopter there and ready to go. After all, isn't it about finding good homes for the animals instead of letting them linger even longer in a shelter or foster home? Many people could offer great homes but don't have upwards of $500 to throw at a rescue organization! Yes, they vet the dogs before adopting them out, but at least you could get their vetting done on a timeline that doesn't take such a huge bite out of your bank account. I give up trying to adopt, especially at CACC.
