The smell. OMG! It hits you like a truck when you first walk in. Honestly it was a bit hard to get through when looking at their cat shelter. They had many young kittens with their mamas at the time that my husband and I visited. Their dog kennels were outdoors, although the dogs are kept inside enclosed buildings. I noticed there were at least two dogs per kennel which tells me they’re overcrowded at this shelter. I felt bad their kennels were so small for the size of some of the dogs. Most of them were calm tempered too, which is nice. I’ve been to shelters where the dogs are jumping at people and barking constantly. Unfortunately we did not see any dogs that peaked our interest. Hopefully they can figure out the smell issue in the main building! It’s highly off putting. All of the animals seemed to be healthy and in good condition though so that’s the biggest thing.
I am fostering an 8 month old cat named Zues. He is a beautiful cat who is very chill, playful, loveable, gentle, obedient, great w/ my kids and chihuahua. I'm heartbroken because I cannot adopt for reasons out of my control. I need to find him a loving family and home. If someone is open to adopt, please reach out ASAP. Ty...
I have recently adopted 2 kittens through the "foster to adopt" program. On most of my visits, it has been Abigail (aka Abby in foster), who has been with me through the process. She is extremely friendly, genuinely cares about the animals and the adopters, knowledgeable and a great asset to Animal Services. If you have a question and she doesn't know the answer, she makes sure to find out for you. Kudos for having such a wonderful person on your staff.
Unfortunately, the shelter is always at maximum capacity. It seems that many pet owners in the city are not very responsible, leading to a high number of animals needing care and shelter. Despite this challenging situation, the staff at Animal Shelter are incredibly kind and dedicated. Every person I interacted with was friendly and eager to help. They go above and beyond to ensure that each animal receives the attention and care they need. The staff's compassion and commitment are evident in everything they do, from the way they handle the animals to the support they offer to potential adopters. Despite the shelter being crowded, the love and care provided make it a place worth visiting.
I want to congratulate a sincere worker at the Animal Services Center. Her name is Ana. She has been an exceptional help in a difficult working environment. The situation was difficult because we are pet lovers but sometimes life happens things go side ways. Ana came to our rescue making the whole process bearable. With the first contact with her, she gave her extention contact to speak with her directly. She goes up and over the high bar set for such a crowded and stressful place. My thanks and utmost respect goes to Ana, and her co-worker Spencer and supervisor Mark.
