Description Saving lives. It’s what we do. For more than 80 years, Animal Friends has been saving, impacting, engaging, enriching and affecting the lives of the pets and people of our region. Since our humble beginnings in 1943, we have grown into a full-service companion animal welfare organization serving the pets and people of Pittsburgh and the surrounding area. With our progressive programs, Animal Friends is leading the way toward making our community a safer and more humane place. Simply put, we’re thinking outside the cage!
My cat was found by a couple who kept him for a month before taking him to this vet (mind you my cat was chipped with my info.) When they took him to this vet chip was not scanned prior to them having my cats nails clipped and belly shaved etc. His name was changed and it was almost as though the vet preferred the finders keep him so it was easier on their paperwork. I have been sick stressed about him for 4 months looking everywhere for him posting everywhere about him. When the vet left me a voice-mail that he was found I had to drive 40 minutes out of my way to get a response and show up myself. Only to be sent to a different building after being told to wait in the wrong entrance for 30 minutes additional to my long drive to get my cat. Days later I have my cat back and they proceed to give the vet info to the people who kept him for a month and not his chipped owner. They called my boyfriend Jason but referred to him as (Nathan) and left an ominous voice message that we could keep the stray we found? That made no sense and what a serious thing to say about an animals life and not even know who you are saying it to. Very unprofessional IMPOSSIBLE TO GET INTO CONTACT WITH THEM ANSWER THE DAMN PHONE! I never would've taken my animals here and I'll continue to avoid this disorganized business and recommend people do the same if they care for the effort put into their animals well being and saftey.
We adopted a 2-year old cat 6 months ago. I cannot say enough nice things about Animal Friends. In addition to clinical history and recommendations, they included a behavioral assessment which proved to be accurate and pages of instructions for acclimatizing the new cat. Our Beanz has been a joy to our lives. Their fee was so low, we sent them a contribution.
The agility classes are are great way to bond and train your pet. The training helps with teaching your dog to learn commands and also, in the long term, can keep your pet safe. The instructors are fun and full of enthusiasm for both you and your dog. They keep safety a top priority. I recommend this! It's a super fun way to enrich your dogs life!
We brought our kitty for one of their mass spaying events. The facilities were very impressive—spacious, very clean, and well staffed. And most importantly, our kitty came back healthy and with very neat and clean stitches. Couldn’t recommend them more, for either donations or pet care.
My experience with Animal Friends was great. They were helpful in a way that shows that they truly care about animals wellbeing and providing support for their guardians as well. After all it takes a village to raise a puppy or a kitten and I am very glad I found this kind of village in Animal Friends.
I live in the city of Pittsburgh and they have/had a program for neutering and spaying animals. I signed up for the program and waited and waited for a phone call to get this feral cat fixed. No reply. Then I found out that the program was on hold. I called up Animal Friends and got an appointment within a week. So happy. Our little feral, Pumpkin, is wearing his collar now. We are keeping him as an inside cat. Pumpkin is a Creamsicle cat, orange and white. He is a gentle-natured cat who just appeared on our porch. Pumpkin was only about 8 months old at the time. He was friendly and beautiful. Animal Friends enabled us to calm this lovely cat down. When we first brought him inside during the brutal cold in January, he had been bitten on the neck by a dog. But Pumpkin still wanted out and was crying and climbing the curtains. Needless to say, he has calmed down. Thank you, Animal Friends for all your kindness and help.
