They started out really communicative with me until they told me they recieved my application and asked for a video of my backyard. On the application, I mentioned I lived in an apartment, so I just echoed that I don't have a yard since I live in an apartment. Then the communication went silent. I tried to get into contact with them 2-3 times. The 1st time was letting me know they were having some personal issues. I definitely understood, but this is also a buisness so pass the task onto someone else? After waiting for about 6 weeks and a few calls with no response, I gave up. I saw their Facebook was recently active so it meant someone was able to keep the place running? It would at least be courteous to let me know my application was rejected or that they don't adopt out to people who live in apartments. This experience was very unprofessional. It's really sad because I see the dog I was interested in is still up for adoption and they literally posted him on Facebook that he was! But, I'm not interested in the unprofessional approach of this non-profit. I'll look and donate to other shelters who are more professional.
We have adopted a dog actually 2 from Gracie's project and have also started helping them foster !! They are doing amazing things and helping keep these poor fur baby’s off the streets and out of the pounds . HELP them out when and where you can they are non profit and rely strictly on donations to run the business .
Tried to adopt a dog from them, never got a call back, tried recently to give them a beautiful Husky that someone dumped in our neighborhood, again, no answer. I find the paperwork to adopt a dog over the top even though I get what they are trying to do and support their mission. I just think they are either understaffed or one person is trying to do it all. I hope they get some help soon.
We got our sweet Bonnie from them. I 100% would suggest adopting from Gracie’s anytime! I was thankful they took the adoption process serious, and want to make sure their dogs are a good fit for the family. I had zero problems with communication or the application process. Loretta and her husband truly care about the dogs, and I am happy to refer everyone to them! I was thankful the application process was lengthy and the home visit because those are very important aspects to adopting a new family member. This also insures no adoption was on a whim, and that the family who’s seeking to adopt is serious about the process.
I filled out an application online. But all I received was an email that said "we're in Amarillo". I wasn't even sure it was from Gracie's Project, until I hovered over the emaiI address. I was living in New Mexico, a 2-hour drive from Amarillo. I guess the very short email was to tell me I was too far away? It seemed she didn't really care there was a person willing to adopt one of their dogs. Wouldn't she have said more? Or at least say she was from Gracie's Project? I didn't reply to the email because it didn't seem like she wanted a reply. Instead, I went to the Lubbock Animal Shelter. Their dogs are all vaccinated, so there really wasn't any benefit for me to adopt from Gracie's project (unless you want a dog that has received extra training from a foster family.) Plus, the dogs from LAS are relatively inexpensive, and can be free if you go on a day when they're having a special.
If I could give zero stars I would! My family and I were wanting to adopt one maybe two Rottweiler puppies. I filled out the application and wrote the lady who was fostering them. I let the foster dog mom know about our family and our other dogs. Loretta (Gracie’s Project owner) sent me an email asking when we could meet up with the dogs. We got a plan together with the fosters, told our kids, made plans to go meet the dogs. The night before I was asking the fosters how the dogs personality were, are they cuddly, etc. None of my questions were or should have been concerning. Well I guess in the mean time the fosters and Loretta decided that my family wasn’t good enough for these dogs because we have never had a Rottweiler and didn’t know how they were. The foster is the one who told me after already planning to meet with us. She told me to reach out to Loretta. I called, I left messages, I have emailed! Not once has Loretta reach out to me. I don’t know how they can make a decision if a family is fit or not if they haven’t even meet them or let them be around the animal. Trust me I understand the work they do and making sure the animals get great homes. But this was totally uncalled for.
