Two years ago, our 19 year old daschund passed away. After a year we started looking around at dogs that were up for adoption so our 8 year old pup would have a friend again. After months, we did finally find a dog that we absolutely fell in love with and thought would be a perfect fit for our home. Unfortunately, we were denied based on our fence. The acre we live on has a wooden privacy fence on 3 sides and, for the safety of our currently owned dog while maintaining a view of the pasture behind us, we had installed a 5 foot galvanized welded wire fence. We had researched this for months to determine the best option for keeping our pup safe and other animals, including livestock and coyotes, out. But the shelters fear is that the 20 lb dog we wanted to adopt would break through the welded wire. I'll never understand this decision. Especially since we never leave pets unattended outside, fenced or not. The staff are very friendly and the dogs, as well as the facility, are well taken care of. However many of the dogs there have been there for months and I don't understand why. All the shelters in town are full and dogs are literally dying because no shelters have room, yet this decision was made. We are still going to adopt, but I guess we have learned to get approval from a shelter before falling in love with a fur baby next time. Because we are absolutely heartbroken.

HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION AND ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS I recently tried to adopt a 2 yr old Basset from this shelter and was denied for irrational reasons. My spouse and I just moved to Canyon 3 months ago. Our intention was to get settled and then bring a dog into our home. We went to the shelter and immediately fell in love with the 2 yr old female basset. We inquired about how we could bring her home and were told that we needed to fill out an application. We filled it out completely and gave all the personal references needed. We were told that someone would come and inspect the house and yard within 24-48 hours. Almost a week later, after numerous attempts to contact them, we were told that we were denied due to us not living in the house long enough and that we didn’t list a vet as reference. I explained that we paid cash for our house and own it and that we don’t currently have any animals so we don’t have a vet. I then called and registered with a vet here in Canyon and called back and gave that information. We stopped by the next day to try and talk to the person that denied us, but she had just left and was unavailable. We pled with the poor volunteers to help us and get the “board” to reconsider. One of the volunteers did come out later that afternoon to inspect the house and yard. We called again and we were told that we were still denied because we didn’t have a history with a vet. The “board” of this shelter is not interested in finding loving homes for the animals they have. Very disappointed and frustrated with how we were treated and that we can’t bring that sweet dog into our very loving forever home.

We are waiting to adopt a chorkie from the shelter. It's about a 2 week waiting period for the process. We had to fill out an application and they have to come and inspect our house and yard before they approve the adoption. It's $90 to adopt a pet from the shelter. The staff seem nice.

I have been trying to adopt a dog for almost a month here & have not received a single call back! Every time I call they say they are still waiting on the application to come back (which originally was told 2-3 days) It feels like they just don’t want to let go of this dog! Very poor communication skills, you should follow up with customers immediately and not leave them in limbo! I have a sweet boy hoping to get a dog for his birthday and haven’t heard a peep! They have many cute dogs and would love to give one a loving home....

Me and my family I adopted a dog from the shelter whenever I was in high school . I moved out of my parents house and into my own home and I did not want to take my dog out of the home he was comfortable in and had grown up In. For this reason they denied me they would constantly give me the runaround whenever I would ask for an update on my application. It is too bad that these women are what is standing between dogs that need to be adopted and a good home, because they have to be the most unprofessional women I have ever come in contact with. They are very uncivilized and don’t have a problem talking to you in a rude manner . I’m not against adopting a dog in need, so if you feel the need to adopt from this shelter just know that they have extremely rude women working in the shelter and they will give you the runaround. If you don’t believe me go see for yourself but before you do it is very clear how unprofessional they are just based on the replies to their bad reviews on how they talk to people. Very trashy, if I could give zero stars I would.

I adopted my little guy there nearly two years ago. Yes, you have to be approved, and Yes your yard and fence have to be in good sturdy condition. I started the process on Tuesday, and had Brody (His new name) home by Friday. I had no problems and have a Wonderful new Family Member. Love him to pieces and he's spoiled rotten!!
