I brought my baby Bella here 3 months ago in May for some breathing problems. She had to stay overnight then the next day she was transferred due to them being closed on the weekend at the time. I just want to say thank you for everything. The whole time Bella was there she was definitely cared for by the doctors and technicians. I loved my update calls on how she was doing and I could tell that she was getting the care she deserved. She was transferred a day later and she was there for not even hour before she sadly passed. I even received a poem in the mail from the cove a few days after her passing that really warmed my heart. Thank you for doing all that you could and making sure she was comfortable on her last days on earth. It was a pleasure being her mom for the past 10 years. β€οΈπΆππͺ½
Today I put my childhood cat to sleep and the staff were extremely nice, respectful, and caring. I had never experienced something this heartbreaking and having a staff that is kind helped the horrible situation I was in. Rest in peace to my sweet Sammy boy. NEW EDIT: they have sent me a letter in the mail and a plant to use so I can remember my sweet baby. This place is absolutely amazing. Thank you to the people who helped me and cared for my sweet sick baby Sammy during such a hard time. My heart has slowly started to heal and your kindness, love, and respect has not gone unnoticed. Thank you.
The cove recently helped us when our 12 week old puppy broke her tibia. We went to a different urgent care that was able to help us splint our girl and The Cove called them after hours to get her medical record and X-rays and then called us the next morning to tell us they could get us in same day for consult and surgery. Thank goodness they did because we would have waited another 24 hours to see another surgeon and after the night our sweet pup had that would have been unbearable. The Cove surgeon and vet staff was nothing short of amazing with our girl and called before during and after her surgery to let us know how she was. The price was comparable to another quote we received. You are getting top notch orthopedic surgical care here as well as 24/7 staff. It was worth it!
No one ever hopes to need an emergency vet. But if I do again. I will go to the COVE. The staff were caring and knowledgeable. They communicated well and in a timely manner. The whole experience was as good as an emergency can be. I recommend them. I did call before I drove there as my dog was having breathing issues. They had a file waiting and took her back immediately upon arrival. A big T hank you to the staff for compassion.
There are not enough words to describe my gratitude to the COVE. When my healthy 1.5 year old poodle mix was hospitalized for his first Addisonian crisis, our primary vet recommended overnight care at the cove. Their reception team was efficient, timely, and also extended compassion and reassurance over the phone. Their coordination with our primary vet made the transitions back and forth for his care seamless. In addition to our baby's health crisis, we were also juggling a move and major life events - the COVE staff made us feel safe and cared for in an incredibly stressful time. Our puppy received evidence based care, an unbelievably quick diagnosis (especially in an Addison's patient!) and efficient treatment. He was back to himself in two days! Not only did the cove provide top notch medical management, they also provided top notch compassionate care. It was clear from the interactions between our baby and staff that he was doted upon, fed, put to bed, taken out, cleaned, and petted as if he was their own puppy. His body language reflected how safe he felt with them even while in the worst of his crisis. It is never easy sleeping away from your fur baby, but we rested a little easier knowing he was around professionals who truly cared for him. The regular updates including pictures also helped ease our worry. Cost is a huge factor in dealing with veterinary medicine. This is an unfortunate fact that no veterinary professional relishes or has much (if any) control over. The Cove was upfront about costs of care, how each line item contributed to our dog's treatment, and expressed compassion and flexibility for what we could afford. They navigated the ugly parts of vet med with grace, and I never felt as if they were holding my baby's health for ransom. And lastly, I would like to recognize Dr. Pendry specifically. As the covering overnight veterinarian, she was the one who received our transfer both nights and spoke with us the most. All of our interactions with her were filled with compassion, empathy, respect, and trauma-informed language. We never felt rushed through our sessions and had all of our questions answered completely. Dr. Pendry and Dr. Patterson provided guidance for future management and very clear discharge instructions. If I could do it all over again, I would have chosen the COVE as our hospital without hesitation. These doctors and techs saved our dog's life.
My wife and I took our boston terrier, Rudy, twice to the Cove. Once for stomach bug nearly two months ago and the other time today. The visit today was the hardest one since had to be put down. He was 15 years old and didn't show any signs of slowing down until this morning. Rudy was dealing with a neurological issue. During both visits, the front desk staff, the vets, and the techs were very kind and helpful. They explained all of our options for treatment and went over the pricing for each. As of June 2024, there isn't many choices when it comes to emergency vets in the Hampton Roads area. I'm happy they still offer emergency vet services as many have stopped. I would highly recommend taking your pets there. Thank you for all that you do and helping us fellow pet owners make the right choice even if it's the hardest one.
